Hello Ms. Jenkins, Thank you for using your awesome literary skills, in the genre of historical romance, to open my heart, mind and soul to amazing journeys of black love. Indigo allowed me to understand that even in the most horrific history of slavery, there is hope that great love actually existed. In reading this story, I also gained immense knowledge of pivotal historical facts (people, place, events and dates) that impacted the race. Thank you for reinforcing the importance of reading. You are a phenomenal human being, teacher and author. 10/23/2022

I loved this book, it was full of history, adventure, and romance. I wanted to know if they had a girl or boy? This book should be made into a movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters both Indigo and Galeno and I really liked the story line. It was sweet and romantic in all of the right ways. There was also so much knowledgeable information in this book. I learned a lot that I never knew and most of the time it was woven into the storyline in a way that felt organic. I further enjoyed the fact that this story was a historical romance novel about people of color, specifically Black people, something I have rarely come across. I have only two minor complaints. The first being, that although I enjoyed learning the historical facts there were certain parts of the storyline towards the end that made it feel like less of a novel and more of a history book. I think the author was just trying to conclude smoothly but it almost had the opposite effect. Lastly, there were pivotal parts of the storyline that seemed to be glossed over. (Spoiler Alert) For instance, when Indigo shares her pregnancy with Galeno there is no dialogue.. it is briefly mentioned and then there is nothing else said. There are more than a few examples of this in the story. Overall, I thought it was a beautiful story of love, protection, and civic duty.

The story is entertaining and fun. Ms. Jenkins is determined to educate her readers, and it can get a little tedious, but overall her books are ALWAYS a good time. Her characters are well developed and her ability to create and maintain consistency in the worlds her characters live in is the mark of an excellent storyteller. I have yet to read a book by her I didn’t adore and chuckle through.

This book is everything and then some! It’s now my new favorite book and I absolutely LOVE everything about it!!! This is how books should be written and covers all that a reader could ever ask for from an author. Classy, beautifully written, relatable, and the history in here is priceless! I can go on forever with adjectives to describe how wonderful this story is, because one word just isn’t enough! Can’t wait to read more of Ms. Beverly Jenkins’ work!
