Description

In gods at war, Kyle Idleman, bestselling author of not a fan, helps every believer recognize there are false gods at war within each of us, and they battle for the place of glory and control in our lives. What keeps us from truly following Jesus is that our hearts are pursuing something or someone else.  While these pursuits may not be the “graven images” of old, they are in fact modern day idols.  Behind the sin you’re struggling with, the discouragement you’re dealing with, the lack of purpose you’re living with is a false god that is winning the war for your heart.

According to Idleman, idolatry isn’t an issue—it is the issue.

By asking insightful questions, Idleman reveals which false gods each of us are allowing on the throne of our lives.  What do you sacrifice for?  What makes you mad?  What do you worry about? Whose applause do you long for?  We’re all wired for worship, but we often end up valuing and honoring the idols of money, sex, food, romance, success and many others that keep us from the intimate relationship with God that we desire.

Using true, powerful and honest testimonies of those who have struggled in each area, gods at war illustrates a clear path away from the heartache of our 21st century idolatry back to the heart of God – enabling us to truly be completely committed followers of Jesus.

After finishing "Not a Fan" this felt like a great follow up and I was not disappointed. Many of us have given ourselves to Christ, with all the right intentions, but we don't realize the residue of idols of our past that continue to cling on. This book will help you see that and reveal that only in Christ will these idols find the rightful place and meaning...an excellent read, an important reflection!

I've read Kyle's Not a Fan as well as this book and They both are very good reads. Great, sound, biblical principles made in both books. However Gods at War is my favorite of the two. Looking forward to doing the small group study at my church.

"Gods At War" Breaks down each aspect of daily life. and shows how each can be a "god" we worship. I am not saying that you can't enjoy life, but if you are a Christian you really need to read this. I am far from being perfect no one is. I realized that have/had some Idols that took God's spot on my heart. This book shows how each thing can win over our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.. WE CHOOSE to let Idols take over... When we should be laying it all at God's feet. I pray that this book will help more readers like it did me!

The book will bring to light many areas that we tend to miss things. Idols are everywhere and it will challenge you in every area of your life no matter how spiritual you think you are. Would have given it a full 5 stars but with the footnote comments, wasn't a fan!

The youth group I attend just finished using "Not A Fan" as a Bible study and we have now started "gods at war". I'm really looking forward to it! The first few lessons we've completed have already created an impact in my life.

This book helps the reader, identify idols, which people ( including myself ) often overlook. It helps the reader get to the root-cause, the idol of ME!

“As for those thousand or so references to idolatry in the Bible, haven’t they expired? We don’t know anyone who kneels before golden statues or bows down before carved images.” -Idleman As you will read, idolatry is alive and well...and a serious temptation for all of us. The idols of today aren't statues, they are much more subtle than that...And that's what makes them so dangerous. Our jobs, possessions, money, sex, pornography, our pursuit of fame or recognition can all become gods to us if we're not careful. This book will challenge you to put the Lord Jesus FIRST in your life!

I had no expectations for this book after reading not a fan. I didn't think Kyle could top not a fan. I was wrong this book will hit you right in the gut and teach you that God is not interested in what you do on this earth he wants you to come to him and glorify him in your actions and if you do that he will bless you the way you should be blessed. Looking forward to the next one!!!
