Description

Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him -- something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is. Includes “The New World,” a short story by Patrick Ness.

Amazing book that kept me on my toes the whole time, even through the VERY end. I have to buy the second book after that. It’s wrong that you play with my emotions like that.

Patrick Ness shows an amazing action and sci-fi book that shows a little bit of sexism, and what our world has come to, and how people want to leave it.

I haven’t read a book that I was unable to put down in a long time, but I gave this one a shot and let’s just say I’m downloading the next book in the series as we speak. SO MUCH SUSPENSE. I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did.

One of my favorite books as a teenager. A definitive narrative combined with excellent character development, everything a good book needs. Definitely recommend. 10 out of 10.

I'm more into a romantic book but I happened to read the name and got so interested but then while I started reading the beginning I got bored and then something hooked me ....... The part where he said there's no girls living here and that he never saw one before except his mom but he was a baby soooooo yeah knew right away that this will have a little romance

Not my favorite. Very confusing and I had to read it for school. I don't like the purposeful use of improper spelling and grammar.

Phenomenal book, first introduction to author Patrick Ness, and I can't say enough good things about this book. It's under children's fiction, but I found it to be very grown-up. The choices that the young teenagers are forced to make by their circumstances are riveting and heart breaking at the same time. Another "Lord of the Flies" with adults thrown in. The savagery and beauty of the different shades of humanity throughout the book keep you reading. That thing that the author calls "hope" will keep me coming back for more.

Brilliant novel with superb world building and characters so well developed that I heard their Noise even when I wasn't reading. One of the best reads I've read in a long time. I wish we were related so I could pick his brain.
