Description

An illustrated account of his life and his infamous war, this 1900 volume tells the story of King Philip (or Metacomet), war chief of the Wampanoag Indians. The second son of Massasoit, the Wampanoag chief known for his negotiations with the colonists at Plymouth, Metacomet fought alongside neighboring tribes to stop the expansion of Puritans onto their lands in the late 1600s. After successful conflicts drove back the Puritans, Metacomet formed alliances with other tribes in an effort to push all European colonists from New England. Taking place from 1675 to 1678, this conflict was known as King Philip's War.
