Not sure Cinderella was evil like the title evokes. I guess it all depends upon the perspective as this was the retelling of a not-so-evil stepsister. Envious and not self-confident can skew one’s internal dialogue. This story was nothing more than the insecurities of teenage angst among the pretty and not-so-pretty. With a title like “Cinderella is Evil,” I was expecting more dastardly exploits from Cinderella to support such a thesis, alas I was gravely disappointed.

This was an amazing book that shows victim mentality (Cinderella) can change a story so much

It was too short I felt but could be made longer with more twist and turns. I was expecting more of a twist to the story and how Cinderella is seen as evil.

It was quite interesting to see a different point of view in the Cinderella story. Of course, growing up you only saw/heard Cinderella side of the story. Although this was a really short read, I am glad to have read it. I even felt a little bit of empathy for the ugly stepsister Anna I’m glad in the end that she found true love and marriage who she felt was right for her and didn’t listen to her mother or sister

Such a good story. Love it.
  • Beautiful…but why only 40 pages?

It was very interesting. As soon as I read the blurb, I was hooked. I love when authors change a nice fairy tale and give it a twist. Especially with a Cinderella story. This focuses not just on finding a happily ever after, but also on finding your true self no matter what somebody tells you. I was also shocked to know that technically Anna’s mother bullied Anna about her weight and how Anna should get married. {SPOILERS AHEAD…} PROS: I liked Anna’s perspective and how she described Cinderella, “perfect”, “beautiful” It really shows how others perspective of people actually differ what they think. In the original Cinderella, Cinderella thought that the sisters and their mother bullied her, but actually they cared about her. I loved the twist on how the mother was actually nice to Cinderella and how Anna was jealous and insecure. And the ending was unique, usually a fairy tale would be about “happily ever after, finding a prince” but in this one, Anna found a quirky guy and they ran away together. CONS: Okay, the title is “Evil Cinderella” but what is so evil about her? I felt like we needed more than 40 pages to explain that. This book should’ve been a little longer, like 100+ pages. I have so many questions that could’ve been answered if this book was longer. No shade, obviously. But maybe make a sequel that could also be a short story, and then I’ll understand. Also back to being evil, we needed more depth on Prince Charming. In the original story, he is a handsome prince with a kind heart. But in this story, he’s mean and a little judgey. Why? I feel like with a little more pages, it could’ve been explained. The lack of pages and character development did lose one star. But everything else was SOOOOO GOOD!!

Anna’s point of view is good since she was portrayed as the ugly one.
  • What a refreshing take on “Cinderella”

I really enjoyed this short story of Cinderella that we have heard all our lives but from the eyes of Anna the ‘supposed evil’ step-sister. It is like I have always said...there is always two sides of every story and this is an enjoyable one. Written very well. I know anyone who reads it will enjoy it as I did! Wishing very Happy endings to you all!

I loved the original thought that was put into it. I also admired that it was a diary.
