Emotions

This book has been such a blessing to me, I love the way the book was written. It had a lot of scriptures to relate back to, and it was easy to understand. It was definitely a book that made you think, and help you understand, why sometimes I feel the way I do. I would rate10 stars. Thanks Dr. Stanley for all you books and for following our one and true savior, you are a true blessing.

I know my review's title is a little glib, but I got SO much out of this book, I'm inspired to write to Dr. Stanley and tell him so. My mother gifted this book to me, and not a minute too soon. I'm in the middle of a job search and also navigating my current set of 'trials': post-divorce (only 3 years since), and tremendous financial challenges. This book equips you to *see* perhaps what many others already do, but they either haven't been able to reach you - or, sadly, they've allowed the challenge to prevent them from trying. Dr. Stanley brilliantly provides reference after reference of relevant scripture, and he does so in such a way so as to make them begin to 'take hold' in one's memory. Also, each chapter closes with summary and discussion topics that can be shared or reflected upon privately. I would recommend this book very highly to everyone, though, for those with a sensitivity and resistance to topics of Christianity, I would simply provide a heads-up, alerting them that they may end up feeling ministered to by one of the world's wisest and comprehensively kindest ambassadors of Christ, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. :-)

This fall, Dr. Charles Stanley launched a new book entitled Emotions: Confront the Lies, Conquer with Truth. In Touch Ministries asked me to read and review the book. Below are my thoughts. First of all, if anyone knows me any well at all, it’s obvious how much I enjoy Dr. Stanley and all of his teaching and books, so it’s been an honor to review Dr. Stanley’s latest book. Emotions is based on a sermon series Dr. Stanley did on damaging emotions, and as the subtitle proclaims, the job of Emotions is to “confront the lies and conquer with truth”. The book did an excellent job at it! Dr. Stanley takes readers through all of the various damaging emotions we all face in life and confronts them head on with the truths of Scripture. Dr. Stanley includes encouragement along the way, explains why God gave us emotions and how we can use them to further His kingdom, as well as touches on resolving the damaging emotions of fear, anxiety, rejection, bitterness, guilt, and despair. The practical, understandable, and personal tone of Dr. Stanley is felt throughout the book, as Dr. Stanley shares personal insights into his life at times when he had to overcome the same emotions. Emotions is an excellent book for anyone to read that wishes to take stock of their emotions, clear out the cobwebs, and get on the right track with God. It’s also the perfect resource to be used in a counseling situation for those dealing with damaged emotions. I personally gave a copy of it to a friend of mine suffering from anxiety praying that he will read it and be delivered from his affliction. With all of the emotional stress that afflicts our world today, Emotions is a timely and much needed resource to proclaim what the Word of God says about how we can be victorious over our emotions.
