Description
One of few good things that changed during the pandemic is that the veterinary community started speaking more openly and honestly about mental health. This conversation is long overdue. Veterinary professionals are some of the most highly trained individuals when it comes to caring for animals, but they often don’t have access to the same level of care when it comes to their own wellbeing. However, there’s something that has been left out of the conversation. The traits that help us be successful in our industry - perfectionism, competitiveness, drive, and dedication- are the same qualities that when taken to extremes, can lead to dangerous mental health issues like addiction, depression and eating disorders. This issue of Vet Candy Magazine is dedicated to mental health and inside you will find much-needed tools and support to help normalize the mental health conversation. This month our cover model may not be a veterinarian but Maggie Rose is hoping to help our profession get the help they need. Maggie Rose is the founder of zant. a mental health services app connecting mental health providers to those in need. zant. is growing the largest network of underrepresented mental health providers with services ranging from anxiety, burnout, addiction recovery, eating disorders, depression, and more, in an effort to connect them with those in need across the U.S.
