Description

He’s the father of my child and my best friend.

When Hudson and I met, somehow things just clicked between us. We had the same sense of humor and the same carefree attitude about our lives and goals. Neither of us wanted to lay down roots, we wanted to explore the world.

Then one night, too much alcohol and uncontrolled hormones led to the line blurring, and we fell into bed together only to discover a month later that we were more careless than we thought.

Like the upstanding guy he is, Hudson followed me back to my hometown of Lake Starlight, Alaska, where you can’t throw a penny and not hit one of my family members. We gave them the news that yes, we were having a baby but there would be no wedding. We loved each other but we weren’t in love.

Fast forward three years and we live side by side to make co-parenting our daughter easy. I’m a writer, and he’s a ski instructor. We’ve worked out all the rough edges. Life is good.

Until out of nowhere, things start to change. He has a girlfriend, we’re arguing more than ever, and it feels as if someone has come along and popped our perfect bubble. I’m not sure we’re ever going to fit back inside it now because things are developing. Things like feelings.

TDOSD, is the 4th book in The Lake Starlight series, but can be read as a standalone. As always I loved diving back into Lake Starlight. This one was a little bit more packed in my opinion. We have 2 best friends, a drunken one night stand, a surprise pregnancy, and a co parenting situation. They live next door to each other, they are scared to ruin their friendship so they hid their feelings. We watch then go on this roller coaster of emotions and realizations. I love how Palmer is introduced to the family cabin. (It’s holds all the magic). Piper Rayne did an fabulous job of writing a story within a story. Palmer is a romance writer and is currently trying to make a deadline. When their lives start to change and other people are thrown in the mix, ee see them start to realize that they are more than just friends. This slow burn, is slightly angsty, and has it moments of comedic relief (the retirement home book club meeting) was hilarious but all and all full of banter. Once these two figured it out it was full steam ahead. Little Adley was just the cutest. I loved seeing some of the previous characters continued through out this storyline. Also, kudos to Piper Rayne for writing a heroine who has cochlear implants. Great read.

If you love any of the following tropes I would highly recommend you read this book: second chance, friends to lovers, single parents, small town, big family. I love Lake Starlight, I always love visiting and hate it when the visit comes to an end!! Piper Rayne I hope we don’t have to wait too long before we get to return

I love a good friends to lovers story and this was one of my favorites. We actually jump into the aftermath of these two becoming lovers, since daughter Adley is 3 years old. While she may be the result of too much alcohol, mom and dad Palmer and Hudson couldn't love her more. They live next door to each other and he followed Palmer back to her hometown in Alaska to share the raising of this sassy and spunky cherub. Staying friends has been easy, until recently. Whether it's the woman that Hudson is dating or the possiblitilty of Palmer hopping back into the dating scene herself for the jealousy and hurt feelings, I'll let the readers find out the reasons. But these two absolutely have more than friendly feelings for each other, and always have. It's the journey, slow as it may be, towards etting there that is the story and the treat. Longtime fans of this series and the earlier Bailey family books (the OGs, if you will, including Palmer's parents) will love the on-page cameos and mentions of beloved characters. Although if you'd new to Starlight, AK, you will still be able to fully enjoy Palmer and Hudson's journey towards their HEA. I anxiously await the "next gen" Bailey cousin to be fall in love.

Palmer has always been a bit special. She’s the Bailey grandkid who has had to overcome a personal hurdle—being hearing impaired & has handled it with grace & poise. It helps that many around her have learned sign language, but even then, life can be difficult outside of the Bailey bubble or even outside of Lake Starlight. And even though she’s lived a good life while growing up, she knows there’s so much more out there & more world to explore. Hudson has never wanted to settle down. He’s a thrill seeking, snowboarding, adventure junkie & he has no plans to slow down any time soon. But one night seeing a beautiful girl at the bar he’s tending & he’s completely smitten. Circumstances force him firmly in the friend zone, but he’s ok with that, because they just share something special. But one drunken night, the lines are crossed, and these two find themselves with a sweet little bundle of joy 9 months later. Three years later & they have co-parenting down to an art form. Now neighbors in Lake Starlight, they are readily available to assist each other at the drop of a hat. But even with friendship being their deepest connection, their chemistry is off the charts . That’s all fine and good until they each have to deal with the other one dating. I loved watching these two slowly discover the depth of their relationship. The way that Hudson was a total caretaker for not just Adley (their daughter) but also Palmer. It was the little things he did so subtly that had the biggest impact in skyrocketing his swoon factor. This best friends to lovers, single parents, small town, & maybe a bit of unrequited love read completely swept me off my feet. I loved the trip back to Lake Starlight as usual, & I was absolutely cracking up at the Northern Lights residents as they stirred up trouble. I loved the touch of Harper & her relationship with Palmer…now I can’t wait for her shenanigans.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐝𝐬 is the 4th book in the Lake Starlight series by Piper Rayne, featuring an entertaining and unique friends to lovers romance. Hudson and Palmer were best friends with similar views on relationships. One drunken night led them into a seamless co-parenting situation in Palmer’s hometown of Lake Starlight, AK. Of course, not everyone is a fan of their close relationship, especially Hudson’s new girlfriend. As they both start to date, the new shift in their dynamic starts to stir up confusing feelings. Have these besties been meant for each other all along? Is it too late? I love any excuse to return to Lake Starlight, and this story was super cute! First of all, props to Palmer and Hudson for their phenomenal co-parenting skills! Total respect for the way their relationship with their little girl is always put first!! Get ready for cuteness overload with Adley!🥰 She sure is sharp for a 3 year old! If there is a story for her in the future, she’s going to need a strong, patient man!😂 I love the way Palmer’s hearing impairment was written, and the way those closest to her communicate with her in her preferred method. This author duo weaves small town magic with witty banter and laugh out loud moments from meddling family and the always hilarious senior citizen crew. There’s plenty of drama with both MCs dating other people. I wasn’t a fan of Theresa, Hudson’s girlfriend, even though I feel a little bad for her. She definitely didn’t fit in.😏 The will they or won’t they tension and slow burn of the romance went on forever, but they both had issues. I loved the book within a book idea, and the way this one ended was perfect! That epilogue!🤌🏻 I can’t wait for Harper’s story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶️
  • Fun enemies to lovers romance

This is the fourth book in the Baileys of Lake Starlight spinoff series featuring the children of the original Bailey clan. Four years ago, Palmer Ferguson (mom is Sedona Bailey), had a drunken night with her best friend Hudson which resulted in their now three year old daughter. They decided to co-parent their daughter back in Palmer’s hometown Lake Starlight. They live next door to each other, and are still best friends. Things start to change when Hudson starts to seriously date local school teacher Theresa. Palmer starts to realize that perhaps her feelings are more than platonic. Overall I really enjoyed catching up with the Baileys, and enjoyed Great grandmother Dori’s meddling from the grave. What kept this from being a five star rating? First, the reason that Palmer is fearful of committing is a bit ridiculous (I won’t tell you what it is, but every time they mentioned it, I rolled my eyes). Also, I loved Hudson, but the whole relationship with Theresa was perplexing. Theresa was super annoying and unlikable. Why Hudson stayed with her, especially when he stated that the physical aspect of their relationship was just mediocre, made him seem a bit whimpy. Overall, this is a fun read. I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review.
