INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
“Heart-wrenchingly personal…dizzying.” —Rolling Stone
From eldest daughter Shari Franke, the shocking true story behind the viral 8 Passengers family vlog—now the subject of a Hulu docuseries—and the hidden abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother, and how, in the face of unimaginable pain, she found freedom and healing.
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.
As the family’s YouTube notoriety grew, so too did Ruby’s delusions of righteousness. Fueled by the sadistic influence of relationship coach Jodi Hildebrandt, together they implemented an inhumane and merciless disciplinary regime.
Ruby and Jodi were arrested in Utah in 2023 on multiple charges of aggravated child abuse. On that fateful day, Shari shared a photo online of a police car outside their home. Her caption had one word: “Finally.”
For the first time, Shari will reveal the disturbing truth behind 8 Passengers and her family’s devastating involvement with Jodi Hildebrandt’s cultish life coaching program, “ConneXions.” No stone is left unturned as Shari exposes the perils of influencer culture and shares for the first time her battle for truth and survival in the face of her mother’s cruelty.

5By Dascia11I have been interested in reading this book since it came out. I kind of forgot about it until I was getting on the airplane and decided to last minute buy it. It is definitely a long book, but you get drawn in and are able to finish it quickly. It’s so interesting reading this book as a former subscriber to the eight passengers channel. As a kid, I watched their channel and knew nothing about behind the scenes like everyone else. I think what came out was shocking to everybody. So to read a book from the perspective of one of her own children was so interesting, and something I don’t think any of us expected. This book is very well written, and I would definitely recommend!Raw and Insightful
5By tbsco7I found myself glued to this book. Shari’s story is both devastating and inspiring. I appreciate her bravery in sharing this piece of her, even though she was forced to share so much of her life online. This book provides insight on her experience before, during, and after 8passengers.Perspectives

5By 🤪Samantha 😜I have to say I have to watch documentaries about the Franke family and didn’t think much of it …… until I read Shari’s pov. I don’t think anyone will really understand what Shari was going through unless you have been through the same thing. But I do feel for her in all levels. She is so strong tbh if I was in her situation I don’t think I would ever try and get better. That being said y’all should read the book because it is worth it.Fantastic
5By cgaz22This was an excellent read, although I feel bad saying that. What Shari and her siblings went through was truly horrific. Shari is a talented author and this book was written so well, it really draws you in with her beautiful vulnerability. I hope that she found strength writing this and getting it all out there and off her chest. I wish for her continued success in her journey of self and hope she has a wonderful life filled with of love and healing.amazing book!

5By audtran01This book was so beautifully and respectfully written about a story of such heartbreak and resilience! I am so glad Shari Frank was able to tell her story on her terms. What an incredible and inspiring human! Wishing her and her family all the love and peace to heal!Meh
3By FA JaneUneducated is much more interesting and similar backgrounds. This book as a rhythm of emotional upset, leads to crying, leads to jumping ahead another year. It doesn’t break down major parts of the story.loved.it.
5By happened to meNot sure if shari reads any of these reviews but I just want her to know how strong of a woman she is ! As a mother who is also young and dealt with similar abuse as a child reading this is very eye opening to my own abuse personallyFascinating and Compelling
