Description

From Peter Swanson, the acclaimed author of Eight Perfect Murders, The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is an addictive, nonstop thriller—an ever-tightening coil of suspense that grips you right up to its electrifying end.

On an ordinary Friday evening at his favorite Boston tavern, George Foss’s comfortable, predictable life is shattered when a beautiful woman sits down at the bar, a woman who vanished without a trace twenty years ago.

Liana Dector isn’t just an ex-girlfriend, the first love George couldn’t quite forget. She’s also a dangerous enigma and quite possibly a cold-blooded killer wanted by the police. Suddenly, she’s back—and she needs George’s help. Ruthless men believe she stole some money ... and they will do whatever it takes to get it back.

George knows Liana is trouble. But he can’t say no—he never could—so he makes a choice that will plunge him into a terrifying whirlpool of lies, secrets, betrayal, and murder from which there is no sure escape.

Bold and masterful, full of malicious foreboding and subtle surprises,The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is the story of a man swept into a vortex of irresistible passion and murder when an old love mysteriously reappears.

This book kind of sucked. I liked it but like.. it drug on. George was an idiot and all of this could have been avoided.

I don’t recall why I bought this book awhile ago but apparently stopped reading it once and wish I had given up my second attempt. It is filled with ridiculous cliches, unbelievable characters, and a plot full of holes. Wish I could have back my time spent making myself finish this snooze of a “thriller.” The entire book is summed up in the final 30 pages....for those too daft to follow the story line the author explains repeatedly. I expected the ending to quote Scooby-Doo cartoons, “And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids.” Save your money!
  • Snoozer from start to (nearly the) finish

I wanted to like this book and it seemed to have promise. After all, The Kind Worth Killing had me hooked in no time! This book is slow. The characters, especially George, felt very one dimensional and I just didn't care about them. Sadly, the best narrative comes toward the end but it was hard to finish this book. I did so to avoid feeling guilty for wasting hard earned money (yes, I downloaded the sample first... so maybe 'shame on me').

Not impressed as I was with the authors first book I read...wondering if he will write another story that tells us what happened in this book..I didn't like the ending because there was no ending

Let me be brief. I read a LOT of thrillers and although this book had its good parts, the end literally left my mouth hanging open, and NOT in a good way. A total waste of a day. NEXT!
  • Not worth money, maybe for free...

The whole 'mystery' is that a college educated man, George, is so spineless and dumb. There, I said it. It's a very weak take-off of Body Heat. Without the heat. I found myself frustrated at the situations George gets himself into. Not even a very dim person would keep doing the things he does, which, ultimately means the author expects one to believe in a plot that is just not credible. And what about that ending? Is there a sequel coming? If so, I won't be as dumb as George and buy it!
  • Interesting, and then the ending...

I have never read a book that completely drops off with nothing and nowhere to go. Awful.
