Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the bestselling author of Squeeze Me comes a wildly entertaining Florida caper—a razor-sharp send-up of modern American life, packed with misfits and mayhem.
“No satirist arrived at our dystopian moment better prepared than Carl Hiaasen.” —Slate
“[Carl Hiaasen’s] reality with a side of escapism is a blessing for our fragile minds at this time.” —Samantha Irby in The Atlantic
Welcome to Fever Beach, where the sun blazes, the politics are unhinged, and the characters are as volatile as a summer storm.
Dale Figgo is a half-baked crusader with the rare distinction of being kicked out of the Proud Boys—for being too dumb. His latest bad decision? Picking up a hitchhiker on a rainy afternoon while running an errand.
That errand sets off a chain reaction involving Viva Morales, a clever, resilient newcomer trying to rebuild her life post-divorce. She’s renting a room in Figgo’s apartment and working at the Mink Foundation—a philanthropic front with something far darker beneath the surface.
Circling them is Twilly Spree, a hotheaded environmentalist with too much cash and a gift for over-the-top revenge.
When dark money and twisted motives bring their worlds crashing together, Viva and Twilly become unlikely allies. Together, they uncover a tangle of corruption and conspiracy led by a plastic-surgery-loving billionaire couple and a clueless congressman with delusions of grandeur.
In his most outrageous and deliciously funny novel yet, Hiaasen delivers a gleefully chaotic portrait of contemporary madness.
Reviews
Another great read by the best.
5By Tasunka OGNo one better to entertain than Carl Hiaasen!Cliché filled romp
2By JFla1413A book filled with a mass of cliche’s, like a tumor produced by a steroid-addicted author. Non-sensical, urgently topical, lividly stereotypical and almost predictable. Wouldn’t spend money on it. But would read it on a boat with nothing to do but ice my back. The only thing left undone was how the father of the lousy congressman would end up drowned on the beach of a Caicos island for having paid for an asassination. (You’ll have to read it to understand that bit.) Every other anti-hero in the book ended up cleanly dead or bankrupt. I’m thinking the author had met his quota of words required by the publisher and just stopped spewing drivel. Oops, too strong?Classic Carl Hiaasen
5By un grand cygneTypical Hiaasen political and environmental satire with his outrageous characters and events. The problem is, these days they don’t seem so outrageous compared to actual characters and events.Stupid
1By bzjsj!:The worst book I have ever readFever Beach
5By Reader with standardsAnother great book, as it always is with this offer. The only regret is that it is so hard to tell the satire from non-fiction given the state of our nation.Too TDS
5By 213MAMVery predictable. All MAGA people are morons.Fever Beach
5By PogoeverIt ticked all the boxes for me. 💗Fun with Carl
5By EarthlaleAnother fun romp with Carl and crew! I only hope the real characters he based this on aren’t as warped as those in the story. I need his sense of humor right now. Thank you, Carl. Almost as fun as Squeeze Me!Classic Hiaasen
5By MinRayLaugh out loud funny, crazy characters, and a plot full of twists. Does a good job of commenting on the right wing haters in the MAGA movement. Those of them who can read won’t like this book too much.A caricature of what leftists think about anyone right of center
2By The Node knowsI’ve always known this writer was a leftist but his humor and character development have always been spot on. The antagonists in this story are so laughable that one could mistake them for a right wingers overblown idea of what left wingers think of republicans. His hatred and small mindedness is on full display. I have never met any republican who acts like these clowns and I’ve met hundreds. Carl needs to get outside his bubble and meet real people who don’t think exactly like him. Broadening his mind would be a good thing.Hilarious
5By Mike112111111Great book, glad I found this author.Sorry I read it.
3By Pulmodoc05Too silly.Magats will hate this.
5By JedLaffs…Magats will hate this. Repeat.Fever Beach
1By Say-Say JaneTerrible. This would not get a passing grade in a 10th grade English composition class. Did AI write this the author needs to go back and read Mc Herron James Lee Burke and Ian Rankin to see how great authors construct sentences paragraphs describe scene and demonstrate a command of the English language greater than a Miami third grader I would love to get my money back, and I have really enjoyed his previous novels.Awesome!
5By doggywhitHiaasen at his best.Haiisen has lost his touch.
1By NopperIt's just not good. I have read and enjoyed every Haiisen book until I read Fever Beach. This book doesn’t hold a candle to any of his previous works.Loved it!
5By Uncle folgerLaugh out loud funny, timely, and Hiiason at his best. Buy this book! Not a mystery/thriller
1By D.morganbarryThis book was advertised as a mystery/thriller. It is neither. Instead, this book is all about politics with zero mystery or thrill whatsoever.I laughed…
5By Clogue33Out loud so many times that I lost count. An “infellator”!! You’ll get the joke after. So so good.:)
