Description

For the past five years, Hayley Kincaid and her father, Andy, have been on the road, never staying long in one place as he struggles to escape the demons that have tortured him since his return from Iraq. Now they are back in the town where he grew up so Hayley can attend school. Perhaps, for the first time, Hayley can have a normal life, put aside her own painful memories, even have a relationship with Finn, the hot guy who obviously likes her but is hiding secrets of his own. Will being back home help Andy’s PTSD, or will his terrible memories drag him to the edge of hell, and drugs push him over? The Impossible Knife of Memory is Laurie Halse Anderson at her finest: compelling, surprising, and impossible to put down.

I dreaded reading a book for my summer assignment but by much surprise, I was hooked once I read more and more and finished in less than a week! I hardly read nor get interested in books like I did with this one, now I just want to read more.

Phenomenal! I'm amazed by Laurie Halse Anderson! Every book delivers something brilliant and unexpected. There are very few books which address PTSD like this book. Often associated with war, PTSD "may develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as sexual assault, warfare, serious injury, or threats of imminent death." All of the character is this novel deal with some measure of PTSD. The father, Andy is the obvious messenger, but Finn, Gracie, Trisha, and of course the main character Hayley. It's about being on the brink and find a way back. It's amazing and superbly written.
