Common Concerns for Patients with Dementia

The purpose of this course is to provide nurses with an overview of the physical and psychosocial problems encountered by patients with dementia, so they might intervene to protect their well-being. In addition, members of the public may use this course to enhance their personal knowledge of the subject matter presented.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

1. Discuss the risks of elder abuse and suicide among patients with dementia.
2. Evaluate the potential risks of alcohol use and misuse among older adults, particularly those with dementia.
3. Describe additional risks that patients with dementia experience and steps nurses can take to monitor and facilitate the safety and welfare of these patients.
