Born in Singapore, Terry Tan first trained as a broadcaster and worked as a radio producer for ten years. He also did some television presenting for news and other entertainment programmes. He later switched to advertising as a copywriter and then as a feature/food writer for the now defunct Sunday Nation. His first cookbook was published in 1979 and he has written 20 to date, one of which Asian Cook (Aurum Press London) won the award for the Best Asian Cookbook in the World 2004. His most recent books are Real Thai (Aurum Press) and Malaysian and Singapore Cookbook (Anness Press, UK). A revamp of his first Nonya cookbook jointly written with his son Christopher Tan is due out in 2008.
