A toast to Stone!
4By Not ZiteI’ve been a longtime follower of Stuart Woods’ Stone Barrington series. Like many fans, I’ve come to associate the books with class, wit, and a signature drink. In fact, our go-to party cocktail, affectionately called “Candy,” is a tribute to Stone’s Perfect Gimlet. And yes, it is perfect. With Finders Keepers, the series continues under Brett Battles. I’ll admit I was relieved and impressed that the handoff isn’t glaringly obvious. The tone, pace, and energy all feel true to the legacy Stuart Woods built. It’s clear Battles respects the characters and their world, and that makes me excited to keep pre-ordering each new installment. Stone and Dino remain the heart of the series, and Finders Keepers delivers another satisfying adventure. One of the highlights for me was the introduction of a young lawyer named Ash. He’s sharp, interesting, and has the potential to grow into a standout protagonist of his own. I genuinely hope we see more of him in future books. While I did miss Teddy in this one, the story didn’t feel rushed or phoned in. It had depth, movement, and that familiar Stone Barrington rhythm I enjoy. No spoilers here beyond Ash, but if you’re a fan of the series, this one won’t disappoint.New improved Stone Barrington!
5By dj-waFinally a good plot with just a touch of Stone’s sex life added in! Sadly, I think Mr Woods (RIP) got in a writer’s block problem after around 50 of the Stone series. Way too many sex partners and scenes that were just garbage fillers. Glad that Mr Battles has continued the Stone series and hope he continues giving the the Stone Barrington character the mature substance he deserves. No where near the genius of Wood's.
