Description
***The Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller!***
A smart, funny, and refreshing memoir from Mark Hoppus, the vocalist, bassist, and founding member of pop-punk band blink-182.
This is the story of an angst-filled kid from the desert, navigating the chaos of his parents' bitter divorce and searching for his place in the world. Each move across the country was a chance to reinvent himself, switching identities from dork to goth to skate punk, and eventually meeting his best friend who just so happens to be his musical soulmate.
With sharp humor and raw honesty, Fahrenheit-182 takes readers through Mark's formative years as a latchkey kid in the 1980s, hooked on punk rock, skateboards, and MTV. Along the way, Mark reflects on his lifelong battle with anxiety, his celebrated career with blink-182, and his public fight with cancer, in a voice that’s both relatable and unmistakably his own.
Threaded with sharp humor and heartfelt grit, Fahrenheit-182 is more than just a memoir for blink-182 fans. It’s a funny, smart, and deeply human story for anyone who’s struggled, reinvented themselves, wanted to quit but kept going.
Reviews
One of the best autobiographies I have ever read!
5By SqueezyGI am not the biggest blink-182 fan out there, I do like them. I do have some of their albums. The reason this is one of the best autobiographies I’ve ever read, is Mark is everything that you would want in someone telling their life story. He is very intelligent, witty, funny, and gives all the details about how the band went from local nobodies to being one of the biggest bands in the world. You feel like you’re along for the ride the whole time. He is so overly descriptive that it’s wonderful! He is also very self-aware, very honest and candid And as he says multiple times in the book, his life is a one in a million shot. I so highly recommend this book. It’s not only about a famous rock star’s rise to stardom , it’s about life, friendships, chasing your dreams and after surviving cancer, understanding what’s really important in the world!Such a fun, nostalgic read!
5By BrianneBensonHighly recommend! I learned so much about Blink, laughed a ton and felt all warm and fuzzy from how nostalgic so much of it was! So glad Blink is still giving us new music!Raw and genuine
5By raeburkeAs a life long blink-182 fan I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Read it in 3 days. I enjoyed the rawness of the story. It felt authentic and genuine. I now have an entire new appreciation for the band and I hope there is more to come! Thank you for sharing Mark Hoppus!A trip of a lifetime……
5By RobynjoanWasn’t a huge “early” blink fan, but came to love the music in the later years. Grew up crawling in the same desert scorched sand and it was a walk down memory lane. Loved Marks humor, honesty, and it felt sincere, like talking to an old friend. Thanks Mark. In fact we are blessed, every single day.blink-182 FOREVER!!!
5By SprattwalkerMark you are the MAN!!! Thank you for sharing this with us and keep on Rocking Trig Boy!!!Meh, lacks substance
3By Kef300I was quite looking forward to this book. Having finished it, it feels quite phoned-in. Most of the stories and what is told is already widely available online and widely known. I was hoping to get more insight into the creative process, perhaps get some comments from Mark on some of the songs and the process behind them besides the main singles. Some parts feel rushed. For example, why talk about Modlife yet ignore talking about how the Untitled album writing process was streamed/casted? The Skiba period feels rushed and there was no mention of its creative process besides trying to justify hiring writers. I feel this book could have been written by someone with access to Wikipedia, Reddit and a couple of Blink fan sites.Appreciated marks honesty
5By RunghI knew most of what was written here from reading internet stories, but hearing it in Mark's words was refreshing. It has a personal touch that feels like a conversation between friends where one friend does all the talking and its most Weener and fart jokesAmazing
5By Leonardo LinaresAmazing … really really good bookNostalgia 90s SoCal Punk to the max!
5By nerdcm3yaleAfter reading Sell Out and loving it, I was excited to see Dan Ozzi was tasked with putting this together. In 1996 at the age of 16 I drove my 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme from my Hometown of Tustin CA to “The Barn” at UC Riverside to see Blink. Pre Travis, pre 182. This book brought me back to all those times I saw them play.Must read for any blink-182 fan
5By josh.earlThis book was everything I had hoped for and more. Listening to blink since Dude Ranch, they are my favorite band. Several times throughout reading this book I laughed out loud. Mark’s humor is exactly what you expect and want. The raw and vulnerable side is emotional and moving. Thank you Mark.Mark Hoppus
