Shrek!
—the beloved book that inspired the blockbuster animated film—introduces the most lovable ogre in children's literature.

Before Shrek made it big on the silver screen, there was Caldecott and Newbery Medal winner William Steig's Shrek!, a picture book about a horrid little ogre who leaves his swampy childhood home to see the world. In this modern classic.
This humorous fairy tale celebrates being different with clever storytelling and unforgettable characters. Perfect for read-aloud story time, Shrek! proves that even the ugliest ogre can find his happily ever after.
"Sure to enchant any child lucky enough to read it . . . Such an ingratiating, cheery book that no one will be able to resist it." —The Washington Post Book World

It's nice to read what inspired the animated movies we see today. The only problem I have with the book after purchasing it were scramble words on some pages. But overall, not bad.

I want to see Will Steig's face after he's seen what has become of his innocent ogre on the internet. Any rate, 'twas a good read. I can't see how the movie at all correlates to the story of the original book, but whatever. It was still a funny read.
