Description
Discover the instant #1 New York Times bestseller!
Now in development as a feature film with Amazon MGM Studios, with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad attached to write the script.
Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.
The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.
I’ve spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.
I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.
But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father’s throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.
Now I’m crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn’t choose and a husband I barely know.
Everyone wants me to be something I’m not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.
But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there’s power in being underestimated?
And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?
Reviews
Highly recommend
5By EmDav1Loved everything about this book from the characters to the plot development. I was invested from the very beginning! Only negative is the cliffhanger and having to wait so long for the next!In love
5By care443This book got me out of a massive slump. I don’t usually finish books. Something about these characters just felt accurate. I love that the main girl gave off a dumb feeling like she just didn’t belong which is fitting for the story and her experiencing culture shock. There was nothing significant about her. She wasn’t insanely smart or skilled at fighting and I think that’s what made her character so lovely.2/10
2By tibscyd07This book held me hostage like Bill Murray’s character in Groundhogs Day (and not in a good way). Odessa is unintelligent and unlikeable. Ransom is boring and limited character development. I skim ready the last 200 pages and wished I’d saved myself the agony. It was just ok
2By Ditter66I didn't love the characters or the story line ...Blarg
4By ashjeanclayBlargMust read fantasy
5By heredia84Monsters roam the world, enemies become lovers and the MFC finds her true strength. This book kept me interested as the story unfolded, the banter between the main characters was fun, I would highly recommend! Not bad…
4By DocjjacksonI really liked the story and characters in this romantasy. It had some similar troupes which can get tiresome (like the woman with the unique red hair and the overly masculine love interest) but because the story is unique it made for an interesting read. I look forward to the next book. Hopefully they improve the writing in the sex scenes which were probably the weakest part of the book.Twist ending I didn’t see coming
4By mmarcone912Really enjoyed the twist at the end of this book, and now I’m eager to see what happens next! The first half of this book dragged a bit. But the pace really picked up in the second half. I enjoy the mysteries going on in this world, hope to have a lot more revealed in the next book.Loved it
5By mbcf59Terrific characters in a rich fantasy worldThe ending broke me
5By RavenclawHPI don't normally write reviews but this book almost ended me! I was hooked from the beginning. I think I went through every emotion and that ending...it nearly broke me. Prince Zavier and Odessa - chef's kiss!!!Shield of Sparrows
5By A Texas opinion21Excellent book. It kept you engaged throughout the story as you try to solve the different issues. But to leave us hanging like it did…….I rate based on vibes alone
5By mschlaenannI devoured this book! There are a couple classic romantasy tropes, so those who are well-versed in the genre can probably guess where the plot is going most of the time. That being said, I loved every minute of it. My favorite part of the book is that the side characters are strong, interesting, and lovable on their own. I’m only bummed that I found the book so early, because now I’m going to have to wait so long for the next one!Best book
