Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

One of the most distinctive and funny politicians, Senator John Kennedy (the one from Louisiana)—hailed by Politico as “America’s most quotable Senator”—offers his perceptive (and hilarious) takes on the ridiculousness of political life in this scathingly witty takedown of Washington and its elite denizens.

How to Test Negative for Stupid offers the Senator’s tongue-in-cheek guidebook through Washington, punctuated by his thoughts on various issues and humorous stories about life from Louisiana politics and inside the Senate.

From the mind—and mouth—of "America's Most Quotable Senator":
“Always be yourself . . . unless you suck.”“I say this gently: This is why the aliens won’t talk to us.”“If you trust government, you obviously failed history class.”“I believe that our country was founded by geniuses, but it’s being run by idiots.”“Always follow your heart . . . but take your brain with you.”“I’m not going to Bubble Wrap it: The water in Washington, D.C., won’t clear up until you get the pigs out of the creek.”“I have the right to remain silent but not the ability.”“Common sense is illegal in Washington, D.C., I know. I’ve seen it firsthand.”“I believe that we are going to have to get some new conspiracy theories. All the old ones turned out to be true.”

This is a book written by a man who loves his country and the people in it. He talks truthfully with no room for spin or decisiveness. We need more Senators like Kennedy.

At a time when we need to tone down the rhetoric, Kennedy does an outstanding job of adding gasoline to the fire. Facts are facts and opinions are biased. You guess which is represented here.

Senator John Kennedy is my favorite politician (and it’s difficult to have a favorite politician). He speaks plainly, with clarity, and with humor. His writing skills demonstrate this definitively. Great book, easy read, and should be required reading for ALL high school students.

It is filled with all the in’s and outs of public service life. Including the crooks, liars and evil individuals. But it’s also filled with Kennedys adorable, funny and truthful one liners that had me laughing till the end. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop reading for the next witty saying to highlight so I could find them later on.
  • Common sense with the ability to make you laugh to drive home a point.

I expected an entertaining read, full of Kennedy’s wit and wisdom. Instead, I got a very enjoyable read about this experiences and beliefs and stances on current events. He also catalogues a lot of support for his views. Well done John Kennedy.

This book has some serious elements Senator Kennedy uses humor to show how screwed up our government is and how so many get rich “ serving the people”. You will laugh more than you think and his whit and use of language is well worth the read. The man is really smart but comes across as someone you would like to have a beer with. He is right the nonsense will make you want to day drink but I would love to have my wife and I join him for dinner and just listen. She is reading the book now. Worth the time and a few $
