Description
We offer this issue of the FGB: Glorification. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones introduces us to this profound, joyful, and hope-filled theme: he shows that glorification began in God’s eternal purpose. Petrus Van Mastricht reveals how God’s glory—His essence, attributes, and works—stirs our longing for Christlikeness. (It is challenging reading, but it is worthwhile staying with it. The original article overflows with Scripture references, which were moved to footnotes for easier reading. Consider studying them.) Again, Lloyd-Jones says that, even though we do not fully know what being made “like” Christ will be, Scripture declares that we are destined for it. And though our earthly bodies are vile because of sin, sickness, and death, Richard Sibbes demonstrates from Scripture that Jesus will change our vile body. Christ Himself will be glorified in His people, as Charles Spurgeon so beautifully and biblically details. In a second article, Sibbes proves from Scripture that Christ’s body is the pattern for our glorified bodies. John Flavel unfolds the inheritance that Christ’s precious blood purchased for us: we will discover our happiness in the Triune God; we will experience the joy of a transformed body and soul; and we will be perfectly satisfied in our soul’s deepest longing by the blessed face-to-face vision of our Savior. And the best is yet to come: In a third article, Sibbes gives Scriptural evidence assuring believers that we will be fashioned like Christ. How? Our preparation for glorification begins when the heavenly Spirit regenerates us. Octavius Winslow then guides us from sickness, to deathbed, to glorification. Isaac Ambrose describes our glorified eyes beholding Jesus as God and experiencing His sovereign purpose for our eternal happiness! We close this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster with Spurgeon echoing the believer’s groanings for glorification—to be with Christ, to be like Christ, to behold Him in all His astonishing glory, beauty, and holiness forever and ever! Why do you, my reader, want to go to heaven?
