Description

The New York Times Bestseller!

Based on the fascinating true story of a treasure-stocked Parisian apartment opened for the first time in seventy years. Now with an excerpt of Michelle's novel, I'll See You in Paris!

April Vogt, Sotheby's continental furniture specialist, is speechless when a Paris apartment shuttered for seventy years is discovered in the ninth arrondissement. Beneath the cobwebs and stale perfumed air is a goldmine, and not because of the actual gold (or painted ostrich eggs or mounted rhinoceros horns or bronze bathtub). First, there's a portrait by one of the masters of the Belle Epoque, Giovanni Boldini. And then there are letters and journals written by the very woman in the painting, Marthe de Florian. These documents reveal that she was more than a renowned courtesan with enviable decolletage. Suddenly April's quest is no longer about the bureaux plats and Louis-style armchairs that will fetch millions at auction. It's about discovering the story behind this charismatic woman.

I love Paris and this book delivered. It was captivating how it went back and forth between the two time periods.

Loved this book. This book is filled with so many emotional swings. I became interested in what the vintage journals contained more than April. I felt very invested in all of the characters in this book. A great, extremely fascinating read.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this novel. The characters and their stories held me captive for the entire time. I raced to finish and mourned the end. I look forward to this author's next novel, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found myself reading more about the characters online, looking at the paintings of Boldini etc. The author does a terrific job of weaving a story around some very interesting, real people during a fascinating time in France. Bravo!

The sample was misleading (or I should have done more research before purchase). Within a couple paragraphs after the download, the protagonist fell into a man's arms, blabla. I expected an interesting read about the Belle Époque. Wish I could get my money back . . .
