Description
The “brilliantly wry” (Lena Dunham) and “lovably awkward” (Mindy Kaling) New York Times bestseller from the creator of HBO’s Insecure.
In this "delightfully deadpan" (Essence) bestseller named for her wildly popular web series, Issa Rae waxes humorously on what it’s like to be unabashedly awkward in a world that regards introverts as hapless misfits and black as cool.
I’m awkward—and black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?
Being an introvert (as well as “funny,” according to the Los Angeles Times) in a world that glorifies cool isn’t easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert—whether she’s navigating love, the workplace, friendships, or “rapping”—it sure is entertaining. Now, in this New York Times bestselling debut collection written in her witty and self-deprecating voice, Rae covers everything from cybersexing in the early days of the Internet to deflecting unsolicited comments on weight gain, from navigating the perils of eating out alone and public displays of affection to learning to accept yourself—natural hair and all.
The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl is a book no one—awkward or cool, black, white, or other—will want to miss.

5By TamCollThis book was the first book in my new book club. We all love Issa and really wanted to read this title. For some it wasn’t so great but for me I appreciated most of the book. My favorites were the chapter on Black women and Asian men & The Fashion chapter. I’m so much like Issa it’s crazy! I didn’t like the end I felt it could have been more but I’m a fan so I definitely enjoyed it.Issa Rae

5By VixVixenEvery person who has ever struggled with not fitting-in needs to read this book. Such a great read that I couldn't put it down! I am an "Awkward Black Girl" too and I always knew I was different but never realized there were others like me. Issa Rae is able to articulate the intricacies of being awkward so well that I sometimes felt like I was reading my about myself. She weaves self-deprecating humor and serious insight and inspiration so effortlessly. I'm 36 and it's taken me so many years to be comfortable in my awkwardness. Reading this book reaffirmed to me that it's okay to be awkward and it's actually even okay to be black and awkward. Can't wait to read more books from Issa Rae.LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
5By PGeezy910As an ABG myself, I haven't read a book that hits so close to home since my 4th grade, Judy Blume days! Thanks for sharing your stories, Issa. Such a relatable, thoroughly entertaining read!Awkward Black Girl

4By Janiel-jOh Issa, I feel as if she is one of my wise under 40 year old aunts. As I am making my way though my senior undergraduate year- reading this book has made me realize that it is berable. I have realized that I have so much ahead of me, I can be funny black female that acknowldges her feminity but does not view it has a con. This book has inspire me to be myself- not the mixed black girl the blak people/ white people or who ever else they think I should be. I will not deny my ethnicites to fit into a box for no one. I will eat 4 slices of pizza and not feel bad about others watching me. I am not at the place where I would like to be in life- but this book has definitely made me realize that 20 years is not the end or the peak of my life. Most importantly I have accepted that I can live my life as the person I was created to beAmazing book
