Description

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the northern of the two major land masses that make up the U.S. State of Michigan. The Upper Peninsula contains 29% of the land area of Michigan but just 3% of its total population. Residents are frequently called Yoopers and have a strong regional identity.
The first known inhabitants of the UP were tribes speaking Algonquian languages.  Early tribes included the Menominee, Nocquet, and the Mishinimaki. The French were probably the first European to visit the peninsula.

My family are from the Upper peninsula and I spent a lot of my young years here. My father's job required us to live in other places in the U.S. but we always came back to visit. When I was older and working in Wisconsin, we bought a cabin in the U.P. and spent all our free time there. Now that we're retired , we bought a house and made it a permanent move. I can't began to tell you about the book I discovered on I tunes by Gary St.Martin. He makes it all come alive with his pictures, videos and maps and shows me all the places I haven't been and all the places I want to see. He also gives a nice interpretation of the history of the sites. We're so lucky to live on Lake Superior and enjoy all of it's different faces. Come up, enjoy and see for yourself.

Upper Peninsula Michigan These breathtaking photos take me back to my childhood! As a little girl growing up in Michigan, I loved exploring the Upper Peninsula with my family and friends. Whether camping by the lake shore, daring my friends to take a dip in freezing Lake Superior, or simply visiting friends, beauty always surrounded us. I particularly like the pictures of the lighthouses and waterfalls as those are two of my favorite things to visit, and the Upper Peninsula boasts many of both. My husband and I recently moved back to Michigan. And the 450 beautiful photos and 20 videos have me excited to introduce my own young family to the Upper Peninsula. The photographer's descriptions of the various Upper Peninsula locations and their histories are fascinating. I was surprised how much I still didn't know about the Upper Peninsula even after all my visits. The links to Google Maps are very helpful since we plan to explore as much of Michigan as possible over the next few years. Even my 4-year-old is excited after watching the waterfall videos. If you have ties to Michigan, especially the Upper Peninsula, you will love this book; and even if you've never heard of the UP, you will be pleasantly surprised at the immense and varied beauty found in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
