Description

Red Sparrow is now a major motion picture starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton!

From the bestselling, Edgar Award–winning author of the “terrifically good” (The New York Times) Red Sparrow, a pulse-pounding espionage thriller about star-crossed Russian agent Dominika Egorova and CIA officer Nate Nash in a desperate race to the finish.

Captain Dominika Egorova of the Russian Intelligence Service (SVR) has returned from the West to Moscow and the Center, the headquarters of her service. She finds things worse than when she left. She despises the men she serves, the oligarchs, and crooks, and thugs of Putin’s Russia. What no one knows is that Dominika is working for the CIA as Washington’s most sensitive penetration of SVR and the Kremlin.

Complicating the mortal risks Dominika must take is the fact that she is in love with her CIA handler, Nate Nash, a lust that is as dangerous to both of them as committing espionage in Moscow. Dominika’s life is further complicated when Russian President Putin casts ice-blue eyes in her direction. As she expertly dodges exposure, Dominika deals with a murderously psychotic boss, survives an Iranian assassination attempt, and tries to rescue an arrested double agent—and thwart Putin’s threatening flirtations. These things never end well.

“Jason Matthews has resurrected the spy novel…to reflect the deadly serious stakes of the new Cold War. On a scale of one to five stars, Palace of Treason is a six” (New York Journal of Books). A grand, wildly entertaining ride through the steel-trap mind of a CIA insider, this is a story “as suspenseful and cinematic as the best spy movies” (The Philadelphia Inquirer).

Great spy novels! Now onto the 3 rd book! Can’t wait to find out if Domi and Nate stay together.
  • Loved the plot, hated the writing. I’m bowing out of the last installment

Seriously the plot was great, the characters really good and I loved learning some of the operational terms. But during a couple of sex scenes the overwrought language had me laughing out loud (“Then the couch started spinning, and the walls collapsed, and the picture windows exploded, and the roof caved in.”). And some of the terms, used once, were just annoying (“Nate picked Dominika up at dusk at a CPU—car pickup”) and explaining other acronyms by using characters voices just annoying (“Additional SRAC training,” said Dominika. “That means short-range agent communication, no?”). I did find the perfect character to sum up my opinion though on the excessive use of the acronyms: “McGaffin shook his head, said, “Speak English,” and withdrew.” Just a peek into the language would do, you don’t have to bowl us over

Palace of Treason is fantastic sequel to Red Sparrow. Mr. Matthews makes the characters come alive. I found myself on the edge of my seat during the exfil of the old Russian. Both Palace of Treason & Red Sparrow would make great movies. Looking forward to your next project.

Better than red sparrow, if that's possible. The best two books I've read in a long long long time.

I enjoyed the story but as for Mr Matthews' writing style I'm afraid he didn't adhere to Mark Twain's quote “Don't use a five-dollar word when a fifty-cent word will do.” I thought the word play was a bit convoluted

Fantastic book! I haven't written a glowing review in quite some time. This book was very exciting, convincing, smart and well written. With so much formulaic drivel available today, this book was truly a breath of fresh air! It is so nice to discover an author who is intelligent, informed, interesting and capable of creating an exciting story based on a believable premise and well developed characters. Khorosho!!

Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of Vince Flynn, Brad Thor CIA, spec ops thrillers, but Jason Matthews authentic CIA spy novels are brilliant and a refreshing change from the typical super black ops assassin novels that are very common these days. Matthew spent over 30 years as a CIA case officer and that experience is evident in his writing. This book as was his previous novel red sparrow have plenty of action and authenticity of the spy game. Characters are fully developed with as many layers as an onion. I can't wait to see Matthews to Brooks on the big screen.
  • Well worth waiting for!

Hard to put this novel down. Like 'Red Sparrow' it took only a few pages of reading to realize that 'Palace of Treason' would be a tour de force! Great character building, fast action, often humorous, and always seducing the reader along to the next exciting situation. Well done Jason Matthews. And the recipes that my wife (a chef) and I have tried are tasty and different! Thanks. 06/03/15. BEV Delray Beach, Fl

The author continues developing his great cast of characters, most carried over from Red Sparrow, with a plausible plot that entertains the reader from start to finish. The only negative is that the book had to end and I now have to wait another couple of years for the next installment!

First rate follow-up to "Red Sparrow" his debut novel. Palpable intrigue intricately plotted with a believable female Russian character who matures in this second novel. Plenty of characters who could easily be the matrix for a sequel.
