Description
Don’t miss the TV series, Dark Winds, based on the Leaphorn, Chee, & Manuelito novels, now on AMC and AMC+!
Navajo Tribal cops Jim Chee and Bernadette Manuelito, and their mentor, the legendary Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, investigate two perplexing cases in this exciting Southwestern mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of Spider Woman’s Daughter.
Doing a good deed for a relative offers the perfect opportunity for Sergeant Jim Chee and his wife, Officer Bernie Manuelito, to get away from the daily grind of police work. But two cases will call them back from their short vacation and separate them—one near Shiprock, and the other at iconic Monument Valley.
Chee follows a series of seemingly random and cryptic clues that lead to a missing woman, a coldblooded suspect, and a mysterious mound of dirt and rocks that could be a gravesite. Bernie has her hands full managing the fallout from a drug bust gone wrong, uncovering the origins of a fire in the middle of nowhere, and looking into an ambitious solar energy development with long-ranging consequences for Navajo land.
Under the guidance of their mentor, retired Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, Bernie and Chee will navigate unexpected obstacles and confront the greatest challenge yet to their skills, commitment, and courage.
Reviews
Rock With Wings. Anne Hillerman
5By Wet againA stupendous read with a cast of interesting as well as unsavory characters. Navaho Tribal Sergeant Chee is assigned to work on a movie set with an devious and cruel director and a brutal security guard who enjoys sex with underage females and and who also resorts to blackmail to get his way. Chee’s wife Bernie is also involved in the arrest of a motorist who attempts to bribe her. The Feds won’t file charges on him and she later learns he is working for them. Enjoyed immensely!! My highest recommendation!!Great reading
5By SuelonmI love these books. The stories of the people and the way this beautiful land is described. The author makes you actually see the people and the landscape.Who's on first
4By CrzyhrtUneven plot line and choppy at times. Still a decent read.Keeping the characters alive
5By waldhaus1I still recall the first Joe Leaphorn book I read. One was enough to get me addicted. I am thankful his daughter has the determination and ability to keep the characters alive. If you are a hillerman fan you will rejoice about having Anne extend the series. If you haven't discovered the series yet you have an enriching experience ahead of you.Rock With Wings
5By keohlsonHaving read all 18 of Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn - Chee novels, I was pleased to find that his daughter Anne had decided to add to his legendary series. I have read both of her novels, and anxiously await the third. Only Tony’s daughter could have done this, taking the heart and soul of his novels, while adding her own touches. Anne Hillman does her father proud.Rock with Wings
5By Purrball's MomAnne Hillerman keeps alive the characters her father Tony Hillerman created. Her writing is not quite as polished as his, but the characters remain the individuals he created. The dialogue, like her father's, is crisp. I look forward to reading the next book about Bernie and Chee and the Lieutenant.GREAT!!
5By Rizzoli wannabeSo glad Ms Hellerman brought back Chee, Bernie and Leaphorn. I've missed them. Keep telling us more about them.Rock with wings
