Description

When Horus fell, his Sons fell with him. A broken Legion, beset by rivalries and hunted by their erstwhile allies, the former Luna Wolves have scattered across the tortured realm of the Eye of Terror. And of Abaddon, greatest of the Warmaster’s followers, nothing has been heard for many years. But when Horus’s body is taken from its resting place, a confederation of legionaries seek out the former First Captain, to convince him to embrace his destiny and continue what Horus began.

Best book since the first Horus rising books.

I had high hopes for this book. I am an avid 40k reader and field chaos on the tabletop as well. While a fairly well-written book, the story is just...poor. The minor characters are more interesting then the main characters, the story itself doesn't mesh at all with previous black legion or heresy lore, and the great Abaddon vs Horus showdown that the book leads up to is the biggest disappointment of all. It's like an alternate version of events where suddenly Abaddon becomes a father figure to all the lonely traitors in the eye, easily manhandles and kills the greatest primarch (reborn) to have ever lived, and suddenly the Black Legion starts out as if it's a big family of brothers just looking for a purpose in the galaxy, as opposed to the battle hardened long war veterans led by the tyrannical, tainted former First Captain consumed by hatred. I may have been more receptive to the plot if all of the main points didn't murder well established lore and cast Abaddon into something he has never been. Just my opinions, though. Entertaining at times, but very disappointing overall.

It was good, but definitely not what I expected for the price, or from this author. I'm a huge Aaron Dembski-Bowden fan, but this was not on par with his usual work. The main character felt very "Mary-Sue"-ish and is just the best at everything.
  • $23????????

Are you freaking kidding me? $23 for a novel? Read it...basically, the writer took the character from the Horus heresy, wadded him up, and tossed him in the garbage. This new abbadon bears no resemblance to the previous abbadon. The plot line seemed rather convoluted and contrived as well.

It's an insult for you to save on production costs and make us pay for the agency fee that online distributors charge. I would assume (and maybe you should be open about the facts if my assumptions are incorrect) that these two balance out and we should pay store prices for an ebook version. This book is $5 more than the B&N or Amazon prices. As a reader I have to draw the line and not purchase this book.

$23.99? ??? Will this book make me rich, handsome, and well liked? I doubt it. What makes you feel you are worth all that money?
  • Well there goes a series I loved

Can't event attempt to justify the price of this. BL just lost another fan due to greed.
  • Really? 24 bucks?

Is it interactive or something? This is as sad as seeing two copies of the same book at two different prices, one being "soft cover", the other being "hard cover".
  • Rich in 9 Legion lore after Heresy

A very epic read. There is a ton of traitor legion lore within these pages that occurs just several centuries after the death of Horus. I especially like the first person narrative that is used to tell the story. I don't mind the $23 dollar cost of the e-book. It's very convenient to just start reading a book at the tap of a button. Plus,

A Black Library title worth the money and a re-read. Something sorely missing of late in between overpriced short stories and Dan Abnett's cloying absence.

I love the Warhammer 40k universe and especially the Horus Heresy series. I've been reading this stuff since the Gaunt's Ghosts novels were first coming out, the HH since the very first novel. They lost me, after at least a decade as a faithful fan, when they doubled their prices. Now this...they are no longer in this business for love of the universe and the story but to take advantage of us. I am definitely done.

This novel just became my favorite ever. Absolutely amazing from start to finish and I cannot wait for more from this series. ADB has reset the bar and set it high with this book. A must read to any blacklibrary fan. Only complaint was the price but after reading it I would gladly pay it again and again.

$24...are you serious BL. As if doubling the price for Horus Heresy wasn't bad enough. You want to drive loyal readers away...well this is the way to do it....I can understand maybe overhead for producing a physical product like a hardcover or paperback...but don't give me licensing bs...it's pure greed...try some resonable pricing..$7.99, $8.99, $9.99.
  • Great story bad price

This is what I've been wanting...more Chaos/"Traitor" Legion stories and victories. Even better if we get more victories that aren't against other Chaos factions. This is a great story with a unique viewpoint in this universe. Left me hungry for more. Fine work from ADB...again. The price is absolutely awful, but probably has a lot to do with tariffs and iTunes percentage of sales. It seems cheaper on the BL website, though I admit I did not calculate the conversion from pounds. 3 stars only due to crazy pricing.
  • Not at that price...

Good idea, but good luck with the pricing strategy....really BL? Doubling ur pricing wasn't good enough? Quadrupling ur pricing from just a few years ago is nuts. I'm out...no more BL for me.
