Among the Dead and Dying

I found this in the “free book bin” in the iBooks store. My experience with free books has been somewhat less than grand. Sometimes the quality of the writing itself is poor, with typos and grammatical errors. Sometimes the quality of storytelling leaves a little to be desired, with sentences that don’t flow smoothly and dialogue that nobody would really speak with. Sometimes the plot devices are just weak and contrived. And far too many books are just retelling the same old stories with different character and place names. “Among the Dead and Dying” is an absolute gem! The quality is excellent and the story is amazing. A R Wise created a world that feels real and lived in. It doesn’t seem like the setting or situations are taken for granted. He fleshes it out and gives the world a reason. Now, I’m pretty cheap. There’s a reason I dig through the free books: I don’t want to pay to read if I don’t have to. But I’ll end up paying to read the next two books in this series because he made a world I want to go back to.

The beginning is a little hard to get into as you are projected into a strange world, but then it grips you. I enjoyed the fact that good guys die easily in this novel, which makes all the difference with so many uninteresting books

I loved it! Started out a little slow and it had me confused but it quickly grabbed me and held me at the edge of my seat! I want more, as badly as a zombie wants meat! Keep up the great work! And thanks!

It was difficult for me to get into the book. And being someone who values myself (even if some my not) as great preppie for any type of apocalypse I kept going. And I can say I am glad I did cause it has been one of the class of great z- books I have read. Thank you to the author for a great and awesome read. Keep up the great writing can't wait to read the next book.

A great fantasy twist on the zombie genre. Can not wait for more! Go Saffi!

I started reading this book because it was free, I have never heard of the author or of this series. I am so happy I did get it and read it, it is a page turner and it has drawn me in so much that I bought the second one. I want to know more about the characters and what they did before and what they are going to do after. Trust me and try this out for yourself, fall in love with the unexpected characters

An excellent combination of fantasy and horror coupled with post-apocalyptic science fiction. Read this novel.

This is well written and an enjoyable read. However, it is not a complete book.

Not bad. I hope the author found a proofreader for the rest of the books in the series. Grammar and syntax mistakes really are jarring in an otherwise well-crafted book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can't wait to continue the series. I love the topic and this author has brought something new and exciting to the usual plot of these type of stories. If you like zombie stories you will like this book.

A great story, good action, pulls you in, locks lips then slaps you in the mouth. You WILL be asking for more!

Wow! I got this on a whim - thinking if it sucked, at least I didn't pay for it. Haha. Jokes on me..... I absolutely loved it. I'd pay for it in a heartbeat. If you aren't sure, go for it. I strongly recommend taking a chance on this one.

One of the best post apocalyptic zombie books I've read in a LONG time. I would DEFINITELY read another book in this series without question.

Really interesting book and a lot of fun to read. The author's marriage of two different genres made for a great story that I enjoyed and recommend. Looking forward to the next book(s).
