Description

First novel in a series of six contemporary women's fiction books about second chances and self-discovery!

Auld Acquaintance by Ruth Hay is the story of a woman in her 60s who has lost her confidence through life events, including a divorce. Anna has a part-time job in a library, and a group of good friends, but she is sinking into a depression.

Unexpectedly, she receives a legal letter informing her that she has inherited a piece of property in Scotland. Her first instinct is to ignore this letter as she has no knowledge of the person named as the owner.

Anna's friends persuade her to travel to Scotland and stay until she can decide how to dispose of the farm house near Oban. So begins an adventure which opens up prospects for Anna and introduces her to a new environment and new people who help her.

Will Anna adjust to living in a farm house with the minimum of amenities?

Will she solve the family mystery of the unknown relative who has bestowed this legacy on her?

Will she leave Canada for Scotland or return to her homeland and her safe life there?

This novel is the first in a series. It is specifically designed to appeal to a demographic of women who enjoy reading, who require the printed page in their hands and who want a good story, in an interesting setting, with a positive outcome.

Anna's group of friends and the family mysteries she discovers in the first book, are component parts of the series.

In Time Out Of Mind, (Book 2), Anna's story continues, although that is not obvious at the start. The issue of 'the sandwich generation' is explored in this novel, which is multi-generational and multi-level.

The author intends to focus on several characters from the first book in subsequent novels with a view to garnering an audience which enjoys discovering more about favourite personalities and their lives, in much the same way as world-renowned authors Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy have been able to do.

One of the features of the series is its international appeal. There are 4.7 million people in Canada who describe themselves as "of Scottish descent" and a further 1.5 million in Australia.
