Description

First Place Winner of the 2018 Chanticleer Mystery and Mayhem Historical Mystery Award and fourth book in the USA Today bestselling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series.

It's the summer of 1880, and once again the lovely and inquisitive businesswoman, Annie Fuller, is helping San Francisco lawyer and fiancé, Nate Dawson, with a troublesome case. Nate's client, a female typesetter accused of murdering her boss, refuses to help in her own defense. Complicating matters, Nate's sister Laura insists on getting involved in the potentially dangerous investigation, while Laura's friend Seth Timmons, troubled Civil War veteran, finds himself a witness for the prosecution.

Will Nate be able to win his first big case? Will Laura and Seth find some way of remaining friends? And finally, will Annie and Nate's upcoming nuptials be derailed by their attempts to track down a killer?

Old friends and new readers alike will enjoy Deadly Proof, this fourth installment of the cozy, historical mystery series that blends light-hearted romance and suspense, while examining the lives of late 19th century women who worked in the printing trades. Deadly Proof is followed by Pilfered Promises, and Locke's shorter works, found in Victorian San Francisco Stories: Volumen 1 and 2, and Victorian San Francisco Novellas, feature minor characters from the series.

  • More Power to Women

Deadly Proof offers refreshing moral values and wholesome reading without infusion of explicit sex scenes that characterize most of modern fiction in a sex-privileged and sex-obsessed society. How lucky we are that we do not have to walk around piles of horse dung to cross the street. This book series captures, as close to reality as it gets in terms of language and presentation, the nostalgic aura of a bygone cultural era where women have started to assert their right to equality and independence. It briefly mentions characters and events that can be referenced in the other books of the series. Since I enjoyed reading this and one other, I am very much inclined to continue with the next book.

I’ve read the first four books and a short story so far and enjoy them very much. Now reading book 5. I love mysteries and these books have it, without all the blood, gore and sex. I’ll keep buying her books as long as she keeps writing them. ❤️🌸

Another great mystery read with a great plot and romance to boot! I really enjoyed this book and following the cast of characters in this series. This series of historical fiction and the lives of men and women of the late 1800’s is both educational and entertaining. I think you will enjoy reading it too!

So fun to read and work along with the characters to flesh out who the guilty culprit was. Lovely details of a bygone era that shaped a very nice plot and moved steadily along in development. Characters were done very well. Story was a delight. Suspense at all the appropriate times. Very comfortable read done very well by M. Louisa Locke, who deserves a medal for obviously a ton of research done for this. book.

This is a great continuation of the series! These characters have seemed alive since the first book! The side benefit is the education you don't even realize. Type setting and printing a true art and a little love for good measure!
