A Study in Scandal

All I’ll say is that I have never read anything bad by Caroline Linden.

Her rigidly strict father seeks to punish for a theft committed when she was sixteen and the lie she told to cover it up by attempting to arrange a marriage for her to a cruel abusive man. She runs from both of them to London to find her brother, and right into the arms of a true gentleman. Lord George Grey is an artist and the son of the Duke of Rowley. He rescues her from thugs on the streets of London and takes her to his boarding house to recover. George treats her with kindness. They have a shared interest in his art, and while they work together in his studio, they begin to fall in love. When Lady Samantha’s father finds her, he confines her to their house and attempts to ruin George at the Royal Academy. George seeks help from his father and family who are loving, kind, and caring, just what Samantha needs and completely different from her father. Will the Duke of Rowley be able to convince the Earl of Stratford to allow his son to marry Lady Samantha and restore George’s place in the Exhibition? It might not be easy, but he is a duke and can be quite persuasive. The main characters in this story are all strong in their own ways. Samantha and George are sweet and loving and want to take care of each other. The Duke of Rowley is the strong silent type. The Earl of Stratford is egotistical and rigid. The story is well done, short and paced perfectly. A Study in Scandal is a wonderful story.
