Description
“McMurtry is an alchemist who converts the basest materials to gold.” — New York Times Book Review The Last Picture Show (1966) is both a rambunctious coming-of-age story and an elegy to a forlorn Texas town trying to keep its one movie house alive. Adapted into the Oscar-winning film, this masterpiece immortalizes the lives of the hardscrabble residents who are threatened by the inexorable forces of the modern world.

One For The Ages
5By Walter_C78There are few stories that reach beyond the constraints of the time in which they were written and places in which they were set. This is one of the best. And there is a good chance that any reader from any generation and walk of life can find something they can relate to in this book. Neither the characters or the events of their lives are one-dimensional, even from their points of view. There is depth and complexity which are defining characteristics of truth. Truth is timeless. When a story is built around elements that every generation can relate to and told truthfully, that story resonates. Truth and Resonance the beating heart of any great story and The Last Picture Show is a master class in both.I’d give it zero stars if it was possible.
