Dead Man's Walk
By Larry McMurtry
- Release Date: 2010-06-01
- Genre: Fiction & Literature
Description
The first prequel in Larry McMurtry’s beloved Lonesome Dove series features the early adventures of Texas Rangers Augustus McCrae and Woodrow F. Call, two of the most memorable heroes in contemporary fiction.
As young Texas Rangers, Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call ("Gus" and "Call" for short) have much to learn about survival in a land fraught with perils: not only the blazing heat and raging tornadoes, roiling rivers and merciless Indians, but also the deadly whims of soldiers. On their first expeditions—led by incompetent officers and accompanied by the robust, dauntless whore known as the Great Western—they will face death at the hands of the cunning Comanche war chief Buffalo Hump and the silent Apache Gomez. They will be astonished by the Mexican army. And Gus will meet the love of his life.
Reviews
Enjoyed the book
5By Jacked1455I enjoyed reading the stories of the westDead Mans Walk
5By boots saddleMarvelous old west, pre-Lonesome Dove story. All about Call and Gus in their early years as Rangers. Great yarns and plots and adventures. Five stars all the way.Great Book
5By Big T dawgI read Lonesome Dove first, and thoroughly enjoyed every page of it. After finding out Lonesome Dove was part of a larger series, I decided to give this a read. I found it to be just as well-written and entertaining as the first. I will continue on to read the rest of the series.Pretty darn bleak
3By Berkeley BrentLike the plot, is a long, bleak march. If you are a LD fan, you do get to see Call and Gus in their early years, but a lot of the descriptions don’t seem to jibe with what they have become in LD. Worth the read, I guess, if you can borrow from local library.Great book..
5By Kezar 1Old friends Gus and Woodrow get introduced in style.....Wonderful
4By turkeyballspacoLarry McMurtry is a wonderful and gifted writer, and Dead Man's Walk is a thrilling prequel to Lonesome Dove. Lonesome Dove is, of course, a masterpiece, and Dead Man's Walk is a great book to read for those of you who, like me, were sorry to finish Lonesome Dove.
