Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “One of the year’s strongest fantasy novels” (NPR), an imaginative retelling of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale from the bestselling author of Uprooted.

NEBULA AND HUGO AWARD FINALIST • NAMED ONE OF PASTES BEST FANTASY BOOKS OF THE DECADE • ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The New York Public Library

With the Nebula Award–winning Uprooted, Naomi Novik opened a brilliant new chapter in an already acclaimed career, delving into the magic of fairy tales to craft a love story that was both timeless and utterly of the now. Spinning Silver draws readers deeper into this glittering realm of fantasy, where the boundary between wonder and terror is thinner than a breath, and safety can be stolen as quickly as a kiss.

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders, but her father’s inability to collect his debts has left his family on the edge of poverty—until Miryem takes matters into her own hands. Hardening her heart, the young woman sets out to claim what is owed and soon gains a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold. When an ill-advised boast draws the attention of the king of the Staryk—grim fey creatures who seem more ice than flesh—Miryem’s fate, and that of two kingdoms, will be forever altered. She will face an impossible challenge and, along with two unlikely allies, uncover a secret that threatens to consume the lands of humans and Staryk alike.

The first time reading was a bit confusing with the all different perspectives, but it was such an enjoyable read. I’ve actually read it multiple times now and am enjoying it again. I’ve recommended it to multiple people!

Very good… duh! This was almost 3 stories in one! Quite a bargain tbh! Truely though if you enjoyed uprooted you won’t be disappointed! A bit on the PG side but I prefer that over stupid corny over the top “romance” myself!!!!!

I couldn’t stop reading. She weaves the most wonderful fantastical tale told in many voices to make it even more captivating. I couldn’t put it down.

I liked a fantasy without sex scenes. It was immersive and a quick read but I was left with wondering what happened with the Tsar….

Novik’s story glides so quickly and effortlessly it’s difficult to stop reading. Rereading added subtle details that further enriched the tale. The beautiful imagery of the fairytale is contrasted with reality’s perilous struggle for survival and how following your heart can lead to a better world.

A pleasant read, not too deep or complicated. No details or world building that ever fully immerse you, but enough to keep the story moving.
  • Simply Amazing

Like Uprooted, I devoured this book. Naomi Novik has the ability to conjure wonderful stories full of deep feelings despite a simple brilliant flow of writing. Excellent book to read over and over!

She’s honestly one of my favorite writers. Super compelling read but I really disliked being super confused about the POV switches, especially because you don’t know they switch until their name is mentioned lol. Eventually it’s gets easier to distinguish and then there’s another random POV added towards the end. But other than that, the story line was really well written. Loved Myrim

I read this book on a whim and was pleased after reading it and finding that I really enjoyed it. After the first 1000 pages. The book just took long to get to the climax of the story. Added to this was the change of POV to minor characters which I found didn’t add much and took away from the affect of major scenes and I found myself skimming the book at times. Overall I would recommend reading this but do know that it is a long read and can drag at times.

I’ve read all of Naomi Novik’s other books and loved them, this one I enjoyed as much or more than any of the others. What a wonderful fairytale with two strong, determined female characters, not really a romance at all but with a happy romantic ending. It gave me a warm feeling, it’s a great escape.
  • Longboard and drawn out

Decent story line, but lengthy for what is was; could have been condensed a bit more. many of the storylines within the book did not seem necessary and I could not get into them or really understand the relevance of having a few by the end of the book.
