Description
In the first novel of the New York Times bestselling Temeraire series, a rare bond is formed between a young man and a dragon, and together they must battle in the Napoleonic Wars.
“A terrifically entertaining fantasy novel.”—Stephen King
Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain’s defense by taking to the skies . . . not aboard aircraft but atop the mighty backs of fighting dragons.
When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes its precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Capt. Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future–and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.
“Just when you think you’ve seen every variation possible on the dragon story, along comes Naomi Novik. . . . Her wonderful Temeraire is a dragon for the ages.”—Terry Brooks

5By CheshyThis book is amazing!! I love reading it, I love the tone of it. I love characters (or love to hate them), and I love all the attachments I have made to these characters. There are 7 more books you say? I know what I'm going to be reading for the foreseeable futureGREAT BOOK
5By The guy that doesn't do muchThe beginning really hooks people in if they like naval battles and dragons. There are a few parts that are a little slow, but then the action starts back up. Overall, it's one of the best first books of a series ever.A New Favourite
5By FantasyReaderArtistA fantastic story that will leave readers eagerly downloading the rest of the series. Novik expertly blends dragons and history into world of the highest fantasy believability, with each important character lending a strong and unique voice to a wonderfully paced plot. Only downfalls throughout the series seem to be the lack of development with some crew members (which is acceptable from my point of view, as there are too many per dragon for that to be realistic when keeping in mind book length and the flow of the plot), as well as a lot of page time for Temeraire's food ventures. The diplomacy in Throne of Jade (book 2) can also get a bit tiring when first read, but after the second read, I deem it all necessary. I eagerly await the final book.Awsome
