Description
She’ll win back her freedom, even if she has to steal it.
Nimona Weston has a debt to pay. Her father’s dealings with the dark society known as the Trust cost Nim her freedom. There’s one way out of the contract on her life and that’s to bide her time and pay the tithes. But when the Trust assigns Nim to a task in the king’s own castle, her freedom is not the only thing she’ll risk.
Warrick Spenser has a secret. As king’s seneschal, he should be the last soul in Inara to risk association with dark magic, but long-hidden ties to the Trust are harder to shed than simply cutting the threads. When the Trust sends a thief to his rooms, Warrick thinks he’s finally found a way to be rid of them for good. But Nimona Weston is hiding secrets of her own.
Magical contracts, blood-debt accountants, and a deadly game. An epic fantasy with regency flair, an improper and slightly stabby heroine with a penchant for trouble, clean, slow burn romance, and a dark and twisty plot that pits magic against kings, love against power, and a gothic underworld against a kingdom desperate to survive. Perfect for fans of Sorcery of Thorns and The Shadows Between Us.

1By wtfnicknametakenNot everyone has the same reading styles/preferences, couldn’t continue not because it’s a bad book, lack of interest from the beginning first chapters.3.5
3By bookishharlotSuspense kept me reading. I wanted to know how everything connected with Nim. The romance felt underdeveloped and underwhelming.Between the Ink and Shadows
4By i luv readingIntriguing, well fleshed characters. Imaginative and creative plot lines.Great title!
5By "Sadisfied"Great book!It was ok
4By CstictThe story wasn’t bad. The ending didn’t give me any answers to everything going on in the book and the only way to find out is to buy and read the next one. I was really annoyed by the overuse of the word intimation. It seemed to be everywhere when other words could have been used. I was not left with the feeling that I just had to find out what happens next so I won’t get the next book.Okay - Entertaining Enough
2By BookNerd30I was ultimately very disappointed in this book. If you are looking for a physical description of any of the main characters, city, or items, you will be sorely dissatisfied. Not to mention that the protagonist is a thief… who is continuously caught. It’s as though she is utterly incapable of achieving anything without the help of her love interest. Again, very disappointing. I seldom do not finish a book, but I can’t make it through this one. It’s a shame because the plot has good bones.Pretty good overall
4By RKJ1996This book is a little hard to understand sometimes, but overall is a good book. I will be getting the next book I the series.Captivating read !!
5By RedTweetyCouldn’t put it down !! Can’t wait to read the entire seriesWell written but lacking depth
2By Gary the sweet boiI thought the book was easy to follow and well written. However, there were very few characters and places throughout the book which made it feel one dimensional in some aspects. Also, the magic just felt like feelings rather than actual power. The author would tell of the effect the magic had on the character, but not actually what was happening or what the magic could do. There was also annoying repetitions at times like “a man of this station”. I listed the negatives but I did stick with the story til the end and I am glad I did. Overall, some of the plot ideas and concepts are very interesting. Worth a read, just can’t give it more than 2 stars when I compare to other great reads I’m into right now.Something doesn’t add up.
5By eriknoelWhy did you make your main character so weak, so unwilling to push herself, physically and mentally? You say your main antagonist is powerful, but you only show your protagonist to be weak and dispirited.
