Shark Cove. Toby Neal Another great story by Toby Neal, Shark Cove has it all. Murder, kidnapping, poisoning, love, and friendship... The story is set in beautiful Hawaii. A long ago friend of Detective Lei’s moves into her detective bureau. Harry, a nickname for Harriette, has just been transferred. She has two daughters. Malia, the older girl is having a hard time adjusting to her parents’ separation, when her best friend Camille suddenly appears to be missing. Malia has secrets of her own which she doesn’t want to share; and begins to search for her friend. Malia unwittingly uncovers a trafficking ring. And so the race to find Camille begins. This story is a page turner you won’t want to put down. I recommend that you read Shark Cove and if you you haven’t read any of Toby’s novels, that you start at the beginning and read all of them! I did.

Toby brings back our beloved Lei Texiera and friends and takes us on a new adventure where little teenage Malia is our sleuth. Malia is the daughter of FBI agent Harry Clark who met in Wrong Turn. Malia's Bestie has gone missing and she sets out to find out what happened. Malia is faced with challenges every teen faces because the adults just don't take things as seriously as she does. The frustration that lends to her undeniable courage later is what makes Malia such an amazing addition to the world of Lei. This book read a little different for me, but it's because Malia played such a heavy role. Malia in my opinion is an amazing new heroin in our world of paradise and mystery. Toby once again does an amazing job drawing us in and makung us all feel invested in ways we ddin't think we could. Wonderful and exciting read.

Once again I started reading and couldn’t stop until I finished the book. Love expanding the characters to include people from Lei’s past and weaving them into the current story. The story moved at the right pace and twists and turns in all the right places. Pick this book up and get to reading you won’t be disappointed.
  • The Lei Crime Series Continues!

Lei is back with a brand new exciting story! Shark Cove does not disappoint. It was great to “catch up” with characters that have been part of The Paradise Crime series since the series launched. Neal also introduces new characters and new settings to keep the series fresh and engaging. This book kept me guessing until the end which always means I just couldn’t put it down! Shark Cove introduces Harry, a new detective with the Maui police department and an acquaintance of Lei’s from many years ago. Harry, recently separated from her husband, has two daughters. Malia, the older daughter, plays an important role in this story. Malia’s friend, Camille, suddenly disappears without warning. Malia doesn’t give up trying to help find her friend going beyond what the guidelines setup by her mom. As a teen sleuth, Malia is persistent, fearless, and committed to find her friend! Will she return in the next Paradise Crime novel or maybe even have her own stories to tell for young readers? If you’ve never read the Lei Crime Series, you can certainly pick up Shark Cove and enjoy the story! After you finish, you’ll want to read more while waiting for the next book in this series. Happy Reading!

Another great book by Toby Neal! It’s always great to dive into another Paradise Crime thriller. As always, Neal brings us a story that could be stripped from today’s headlines. It’s filled with action and suspense but with a slight twist since this one focuses more on characters from Lei’s past. We originally meet Harry in Wrong Turn when Lei’s just starting out fresh from the police academy. Almost a decade later, the old friends run into each other and find they both work for Maui PD. Harry’s daughter Malia, a teen amateur sleuth, is frantically searching for her best friend who has disappeared. But she’s not the only one. We’re set on a wild roller coaster ride against the clock to find her and several other missing girls and Neal does not disappoint!

Lei’s job remains challenging and rewarding as she grapples with more bad guys. She is aware that it’s easier for her with her husband, Stevens, in the same profession; he understands the extra hours that it takes to do a good job. That’s not so easy for most spouses of law enforcement members. Fortunately, her ohana help to make things work for Stevens, Lei and their kids. In Shark Cove, we reconnect with some characters from Lei’s past who will be an interesting addition to future stories. We have recently been to Maui, so it was fun to be familiar with some of the areas that are mentioned in the story. A another great adventure with Lei.
  • RIVETING!

Award winning bestseller author Toby Neal is back with Shark Cove (Paradise Crime Mysteries Book #15) and this may prove to be her best book yet! Neal takes readers on a bit of a “back to the future” tour with this plot. If you have read this series from the beginning, you will know how Sergeant Lei Texeira got her first training in personal defense and why she is such a fierce warrior. Sixteen years ago Lei met Harriet Vierra and Malia, the infant daughter that she adopted. They met because of a deadly encounter in Mexico. Harry is now a detective and working with Lei at the Maui Police Department. Malia, is a teen sleuth, whose best friend Camille has gone missing. Other young women across the islands are disappearing without a trace. Lei, Harry and the FBI are pulling out all stops to find the missing girls. Malia decides to take matters into her own hands and conduct her own investigation. Neal does not disappoint as she keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! This plot is as fresh as if it was torn from this morning’s newsfeed. The characters are realistic and Neal always has a way of making her villains particularly heinous. Just when you think you may have solved the whole mystery, Neal drops another bombshell on you to keep you reading another chapter or two! I particularly liked that Malia was relentless in her quest to find her friend Camille. She had that “gut feeling” all great police investigators get while working a case. The future of the Maui Police Department looks bright with young women like Malia looking ahead at a career in law enforcement. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the author/publisher. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
