The 1980's and early 1990's was the era of conglomerates then they were demereged as industry became single product. The largest was GE and the most iconic leader was Jack Welch. I worked for both Hanson Trust and then the demerged Hanson before working for Hutchings of Tomkins fame in his own private conglomerate.
