Description

We have summarized the essential of this book by the author.

From the French Revolution conflicts began to occur between NATIONS, until the FIRST WORLD WAR. At that point, the conflict between nations was displaced by the IDEOLOGICAL conflict between fascism-Nazism, communism and liberal democracy, which was later limited to communism and liberal democracy (COLD WAR).
All these conflicts occurred within the WESTERN CIVILIZATION. With the end of the COLD WAR, the conflict will be between WESTERN CIVILIZATION and NON-WESTERN CIVILIZATIONS (which are no longer objects of Western colonialism).
For Huntington, CIVILIZATION is a CULTURAL entity, defined by common elements: language, history, religion, customs, institutions. CIVILIZATIONS constitute the most comprehensive CULTURAL GROUPING. For example, an inhabitant of Rome can be defined by different levels of IDENTITY: as Roman, as Italian, as Catholic, as European, as Westerner. The civilization to which he belongs (the Western one) is the broader level with which he identifies.
