CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW FOREWORD BY THE AUTHOR
Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide detective John Corey convalesces in the Long Island township of Southold, home to farmers, fishermen -- and at least one killer. Tom and Judy Gordon, a young, attractive couple Corey knows, have been found on their patio, each with a bullet in the head. The local police chief, Sylvester Maxwell, wants Corey's big-city expertise, but Maxwell gets more than he bargained for.
John Corey doesn't like mysteries, which is why he likes to solve them. His investigations lead him into the lore, legends, and ancient secrets of northern Long Island -- more deadly and more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. During his journey of discovery, he meets two remarkable women, Detective Beth Penrose and Mayflower descendant Emma Whitestone, both of whom change his life irrevocably. Ultimately, through his understanding of the murders, John Corey comes to understand himself.
Fast-paced and atmospheric, marked by entrancing characters, incandescent storytelling, and brilliant comic touches, Plum Island is Nelson DeMille at his thrill-inducing best.
Reviews
If you read one DeMille, read this one
5By SatanicpuppyI don’t like him, and I gave him a lot of chances. The follow up to this is dog chow. But this book is wonderful. It’s got some of his flaws, but they’re more bearable here, and it’s otherwise witty and well-paced.Tedious
2By SvanderzylPlum Island is a long, drawn-out murder mystery written with excruciating details about everything - relevant and not. DeMille’s first novel, The Gold Coast, was exactly the same. I guess that is his writing style. I plodded thru this book just to get to the end. Not for me.Plum Island Nelson DeMille
5By Wet againWounded in the line of duty NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey is convalescing at his uncles house in rural eastern Long Island. Life is good and he is healing from the three bullit wounds he suffered. Then he is approached by the local chief of police involving the murder of two of his neighbors. He is asked to assist on the cause and the bodies continue to pile up. Non stop action, suspense and heartbreak. An excellent read!! My highest recommendation!!One of my favorite authors
5By bradsiffJust love Corey’s personality and the relationships developed around him. Hard to put this book down.Wild ride
5By Regaleagle59Fabulous. John Corey is smart, irreverent and sharp as a tack.Don’t waste the time or money
1By r2d2rv6Now I remember why I stopped reading Deville.Good fun
4By Marriott DRA very fun read. Put your brain on hold and go for a ride.Plum Island
5By No-LHRThis book is such a parable of what can and has happened with the technology of weaponizing existing medical diseases. Hmmm just think of the Wuhan Virus. Many many years I read this. I thought I would give it the test of time.
5By penrose phanPlum Island was my first Nelson DeMille an I never missed another. Not one. I used to waste time trying to decide which was my favorite but kind of like choosing the favorite kid. I decided it was time to give it another read. Considering my age of 73 I thought might be parts I didn’t remember. Only thing that really stuck was John on the front porch and The Gut. But at least now I know that Plum Island is still my favorite and gets extra credit for opening a world of stories I have loved since I bought it new and hugged it all the way home. His Best!
5By DannyBoy491This is the best of the best every minute and just as good the third time around.DannyBoy491Plum Island
1By budybodyGot tired of his smart remarks and the story was going nowherePlum Island
5By Whim1954Downloaded this book several years ago and never got around to finally read it...now I’m hooked, line and sinker on cool John Corey. So happy there’s more in the series. Great story and characters. Highly recommend.Plum Island
1By Family doc in MASimply boring enough to stop reading.Glad there are more
5By TxtillyI’ve read my share of mystery thrillers and this ranks up there as one of my favs. While John Corey is on the cheeky side of sarcasm it is so well written you have to laugh. Can’t wait to see if the follow up books are as good.Great book!
5By Reverend Dr.I loved this book! Great read!Plum Island
4By dsphilliGood book, hard to put down. Only problem I found was the extended conversation during the boat chase was a little too long for those sea conditions. Based on my experiences in Coast Guard search and rescue, I found any conversation in an open boat nearly impossible during a CAT-1 hurricane. Wind, rain, sea and engine noises alone would have drowned them out, making conversation very difficult. With that said, that part of the book was very dramatic.Amazing
5By BogeyGolfer2One of my most favorite books of all time!Definitely a page turner
5By Diane OffuttAs a former New Yorker I loved that the story is in Long Island and many places I have been to. The characters are exciting and the story is filled with such suspense it is difficult to put the book down. The main character, John Corey, he is definitely a character. His New York attitude is both funny and at times frustrating. I was happy to hear there are five more books with John Corey. He is a force to be reckoned with. Knowing he is part of the story....well, let's just say it will be another page turner. So so
2By Number 1bookworm!I really wanted to like this book. The lead character is funny and almost believable until the end. I like the geography/history lesson included in the story. What I didn't care for was a complete lack of any surprise on who the bad guys were...in fact that is revealed very early on..before the 200 pages of a sea chase. Is this a book or screen play? All in all less than stellar.
