Description

Buffy meets Jane Austen in the first book of this wickedly funny NYT bestselling series about a young woman whose brush with the supernatural leads to a deadly investigation of London's high society.

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

Soulless is the first book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

This was such a delightful read. I love how it had vampires and werewolves. I would like to know more about Ms Terribotti and her condition. Her mother was dreadful. She should be put in her place. The hero of the story was so dreamy! This is now one of my most favorite steampunk books. I'll be sure to read the next. The narrator was perfect for this. I would like to hear more of her. I really hope she does this whole series.

Fun. Really. Just fun. I read usually 2-3 books a week, and I've really enjoyed this. I'm not going to go on about plot or characters or romance. All you need to know is that this novel is FUN. Do yourself a favor. Enjoy.

I love Gail Carriger's sense of humor and smart character development. Her take on a classic premise is absolutely rewarding with high tea, military werewolves and stylish Vampires all playing a role.

I am blown away by the sheer wit and originality of this series. I am a huge fan of science fiction and inventions, but also all things old English, especially tea, and this book is a perfect mixture of the two. A refreshing female role who can handle herself and satisfying unexpected endings make this an exciting read. It is immensely and wonderfully satyrical, you will laugh out loud. I don't want the series to end and hight recommend it.

I truly enjoyed this book. How could a mixture of vampires, werewolves, and other assorted beings all living openly in Queen Victoria's London not be fun? This is a lovely mixture of fantasy, mystery, and romance. I'm looking forward to reading more of the series. Highly recommended.

Almost as funny as Terry Pratchett (and catching up fast) this book is brilliant and funny as hell. The lovely italian spinster with a vampire friend you can only compare to a peacock and a werewolve love interest. How can you not love this book?

Purchased this app about 3 months ago & was reading a little at a time; really enjoying it ! Then, about a week ago it suddenly stopped working - touch app icon on my iPhone & all that opens is the 'Iceberg Reader' logo, then a blank white page…? Ive uninstalled it, then reinstalled & still the same thing…???

Entertaining, with fun, well-developed characters. I love the witty banter between Miss Tarabotti and Lord Maccon. A great Victorian Era fantasy/mystery/romance for a dreary winter weekend.

I started out by not liking this book but the sheer fun of it won me over. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts not only living openly in British society but advising Queen Victoria! Preposterous and loads of fun! I can't wait to read the rest in the series.

At first, I was a bit skeptical of the title "soulless" and the fact it was printed in bright pink. However, I got over it and absolutely loved the book. I read at least five times. Lord Akeldama is still my favorite character of them all ^_^
