Description
The timeless Newbery Honor Book from bestselling author Katherine Paterson about a wisecracking, ornery, completely unforgettable young heroine.
Eleven-year-old Gilly has been stuck in more foster families than she can remember, and she's hated them all. She has a reputation for being brash, brilliant, and completely unmanageable, and that's the way she likes it. So when she's sent to live with the Trotters—by far the strangest family yet—she knows it's only a temporary problem.
Gilly decides to put her sharp mind to work and get out of there fast. She's determined to no longer be a foster kid. Before long she's devised an elaborate scheme to get her real mother to come rescue her. Unfortunately, the plan doesn't work out quite as she hoped it would...
This classic middle grade novel has moved generations of readers and inspired a major motion picture starring Octavia Spencer, Kathy Bates, Glenn Close, and Danny Glover. The acclaim for the book included the National Book Award, the Christopher Award, and the Jane Addams Award.
The joys and struggles of adoption, told in a real and accessible way, are beautifully expressed in Katherine Paterson's The Great Gilly Hopkins. Don't miss it!

5By TrennedybhaddSo fare I like this book. It is good for kids to read. Kids these days need to learn about realistic fictionLuv it!
5By KoolkaykayI had to read this throughout half of school. I usually don't like reading, but this was worth reading. First thing I think of when I look at it or read it I say - MOVIE!!!!A great read and good conversation starter
5By Rudyfer156Part of a summer reading list, it helped broaden my sons book reading. It really showed the other side of a child's behavior, one that is not pretty or sugarcoated. Brings a bit of reality and hope and certainly a point of view as to "why" (my son labeled this as a sad book with a sad ending but it really sparked a good conversation) and that not all kids are bad, just misunderstood.LUV
5By Brian Nafzigerthis is my fave book ever!!! i luv it And would totally rcomend itAWESOME
5By rachelwhyI loved this book. The end is surprising but likable how Gilly changed her mind about all that was going on. It would have been better though if Gilly went back to Trotter's house in the end. If you have read the book you know what I mean. I wrote a NOTE at the end of my eBook saying that is most likely that Gilly did go back to Trotter's house. LOLZ. This book was super funny! I loved it so much and I hope you do too. It made me laugh, it made me cry. One of my favorite books! This book is SO worth $6.00! But if you don't want to spend that go to the library! They would have it there. PS- If you play Pocket Legends than ADD ME. My name is Mocney. I'm telling you this cause it would rock to talk about this book with someone. ALSO READ THIS BOOK: The Cat Of Bastes. (I think that's how you spell it.) I love both books! Hope to cya in the Pocket Legends world; BYE.
