3By DonDDDA very colorful author. The protagonist has to endure too much ( and repeated) torture for my taste. I enjoyed the descriptions of life in southern Louisiana in the 1970s.JLB- A Master Wordsmith and Story Teller-A Classic
5By Max MustangStumbled on JLB a few years ago and got smitten. Have read or re-read almost everything he's written. A master storyteller, terrific descriptive prose, believable characters, earthy dialog, a street level education and history lesson at the turn of a page. Now in the process of reviewing his offerings to discover that early one I missed. When through I'll re-read his legacy from the beginning and in order. A must have for the serious crime novel connaseur. The neon Rain
5By TedSimonI've read most of JLB's others but I was pleased to see the first Dave Robicheaux book. It did not disappoint, and JLB's ability to write and create mood and character were there from the start. A fine, fine bookThe Neon Rain
3By TaterHawkThis book seemed forced, less authentic and "real feel" than his other books but still worth the read!Neon Rain
4By Decision40Classic James Lee Burke. I had grown tired of the Dave Robichaux series, but was lured back in by the virtuoso performance of Tin Roof Blowdown. I was equally impressed with this latest novel. Here we see Robichaux and Clete Purcel on their original beat as the Bobsey Twins of NOPD homicide. Burke's voice and tempo are back to the quality of his earlier work.
