Dave Robicheaux was once a Louisiana homicide cop. Now he's trying to start a new life, opening up a fishing business and caring for his adopted girl, Alafair.
Compared to Louisiana, Robicheaux thought Montana would be safe — until two Native American activists suddenly go missing. When Robicheaux begins investigating, he is led into the dark world of the Mafia and oil companies. At the same time, someone from his past comes back to haunt him. Someone who was responsible for Robicheaux's flight from New Orleans — someone who brutally murdered his wife — and now is after young Alafair...

Burke is always a pleasure
5By BigahjkIt is amazing how James Lee Burke can create such a vivid picture with his writings. He is the master at drawing you into his books and stories. I have been to Louisiana on business many times which makes the Dave Robicheaux books that much more entertaining for me. He is one of favorite authors.Excellent
5By Moses BelleGreat story, love able characters. I loved the crystal clear and colorful descriptions of the bayou, the land and the reddish sky, and the lovely Montana mountains. Dave is humanely flawed, but that makes him REAL. He has a soft loving heart for his daughter ALAFAIR.. I will continue to read all of the books in this series, I want to watch and read about ALAFAIR and how she is growing, and the development of Dave Robicheux. LADY PEPPER ROSE May 27, 2020
