Jitterbug Perfume
By Tom Robbins
- Release Date: 1984-11-01
- Genre: Literary Fiction
Description
Jitterbug Perfume
is an epic.
Which is to say, it begins in the forests of ancient Bohemia and doesn’t conclude until nine o’clock tonight (Paris time).
It is a saga, as well. A saga must have a hero, and the hero of this one is a janitor with a missing bottle.
The bottle is blue, very, very old, and embossed with the image of a goat-horned god.
If the liquid in the bottle actually is the secret essence of the universe, as some folks seem to think, it had better be discovered soon because it is leaking and there is only a drop or two left.

5By davidgoinAll I know is that this book grabbed me. Someone asked me to describe it and I was hard put to do so. Yes, it's sort of about perfume; it's possible history beginning with simple odors of the land to fragrances that we all now know as perfume. But, it's also about a bunch more. While perfume seems to be the core of the book, talk of religion old and new is rife, as is mention of far off distant lands and scopes of time from long ago to now. I'm not really sure what this book is "about" but am sure that it's an interesting ride to somewhere. Tom Robbins makes implausibility plausible. D. GoinIt IS an epic
