Jane Eyre
By Charlotte Brontë

- Release Date: 1847-10-15
- Genre: Literary Fiction
Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Charlotte Brontë’s classic is like three novels in one. Above all, it’s a haunting Gothic tale set in an ancient and remote manor house, a story full of suspense, terror, supernatural encounters, and twisted family secrets. But Jane Eyre is also a dark romance in which the road to true love is rife with potholes, as well as a coming-of-age story, tracing a heroine’s development from a shy, isolated teen into a confident woman.
When we first meet Jane, she’s just been sent by her cruel aunt to a boarding school with an even crueler headmaster. But circumstances quickly improve for Jane, whose headstrong nature bucks the social norms of the time. She becomes a teacher and starts working for the brooding, mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane eventually falls for her employer, but he’s hiding a secret - and it’s a doozy. Brontë’s novel is, quite simply, a page-turner.

5By XYZ3BA beautiful love story and excellent read. I was enthralled from the first chapter and stayed up past my bedtime because difficult to put the book down.Schools should require this reading, even just for the vocabulary
5By apple pie is yummyRead this classic after I had seen it on TV. The novel stirred my love for the english language, how you can use it to describe any situation without the prolixity of ‘ you know’ and ‘ aahhh’ . Some words are becoming obsolete due to non usage, I needed a dictionary next to me. It’s fascinating how Bronte in those days conceived a romantic story tying up poverty, religion, friendship and redemption. Lovely.Good but very drawn out
3By PilgrimPrincess58As rounded as Jane is, internally and externally blossoming, her romantic endeavor with Rochester was confusing and drawn out. I like the premise but did not prefer some plot choices. Great book, just longgggg.A+
5By butterfly FlutterbyeVery beautiful storyDefinitely a classic
4By Book EnthusistIt is an obviously well written and thought out story. I found some issue with the romance’s third act conflict. It’s not my favorite love story but I found myself highlighting a few key pieces of the romance, finding that they were articulating a feeling I hadn’t yet been able to put into words. I’m definitely happy to have now read Jane EyereJane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
5By Carol F. YostThis is a magnificent book, one of the classics!Jane Eyre
4By Roses & Lilies of the ValleyI gave ‘Jane Eyre’ 4 stars for two reasons: 1.) Because it took a fair amount of determination to become comfortable with the language (words not in U. S. English or not used in a familiar way) and the grammatical structure used to reflect the time period of the story and that of the author. 2.) I couldn’t find a way to rate it 4.7 stars. Well worth the effort to become accustomed to the literary style.charlotte brontë does not like women supporting women
