Jane Eyre

- Genre: Literary Fiction
Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Charlotte Brontë’s classic is like three novels in one. Above all, it’s a haunting Gothic tale set in an ancient and remote manor house, a story full of suspense, terror, supernatural encounters, and twisted family secrets. But Jane Eyre is also a dark romance in which the road to true love is rife with potholes, as well as a coming-of-age story, tracing a heroine’s development from a shy, isolated teen into a confident woman.
When we first meet Jane, she’s just been sent by her cruel aunt to a boarding school with an even crueler headmaster. But circumstances quickly improve for Jane, whose headstrong nature bucks the social norms of the time. She becomes a teacher and starts working for the brooding, mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane eventually falls for her employer, but he’s hiding a secret - and it’s a doozy. Brontë’s novel is, quite simply, a page-turner.
Reviews
Definitely a classic
4By Book EnthusistIt is an obviously well written and thought out story. I found some issue with the romance’s third act conflict. It’s not my favorite love story but I found myself highlighting a few key pieces of the romance, finding that they were articulating a feeling I hadn’t yet been able to put into words. I’m definitely happy to have now read Jane EyereJane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
5By Carol F. YostThis is a magnificent book, one of the classics!Jane Eyre
4By Roses & Lilies of the ValleyI gave ‘Jane Eyre’ 4 stars for two reasons: 1.) Because it took a fair amount of determination to become comfortable with the language (words not in U. S. English or not used in a familiar way) and the grammatical structure used to reflect the time period of the story and that of the author. 2.) I couldn’t find a way to rate it 4.7 stars. Well worth the effort to become accustomed to the literary style.charlotte brontë does not like women supporting women

5By WhoisKristiI hated to separate from the page for the demands of life. Now that our time together has ended, I am fully satiated. I can move on and look back with contentment at our holiday. I am not dismayed. Perhaps I shall visit again someday, perhaps not.I lived together with Jane once more
5By sunny xiang. zhejiangnanjingEvery time I read the book, my mood is always bonded with Jane‘s. When she was a child and lived at her aunt’s home and was often ill treated, she was abhorrent to her aunt and her two Casons, I abhorred them too; when she was escaping from Mr Rochester and suffering in the Heath, I was suffering the pain of her pain; when she was praying for God’s help, I was praying for her too; when she was crying, I was tearing too; when she was blissful, I felt I enjoyed her gaiety too. Her story was ended, but my Jane is still living in my heart.Amazing!
5By Mega Waffle11I had never read this nor recall watching a movie on this. So surprising and unexpected. Great story telling and the writing is superb. Did not know it would have so many twists and turns.Jane Eyre
5By MadrebanksI love this book. When I have a favorite, I will read it many times just like watching a favorite movie. I have enjoyed this book many times and will read again I’m sure. The classics never fail. One of my favorites
5By BrChildrSomething about the character of Jane sticks with me. I’ve read this book several times now. I always find myself rooting for her, because she’s been the underdog her whole life. It’s definitely worth your time.A classic for a reason.
5By namesalreadytaken2018583I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. I feel like it’s written in a way that may not be as popular now yet, it is still well written. Worth reading.
