Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Many credit Jules Verne with inventing the genre of science fiction. In this novel, the author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days whisks us back in time and deep into the earth’s core. We follow eccentric scientist Otto Lidenbrock and his team on a dangerous exploration to an Icelandic volcano that he believes is actually a tunnel to the center of the earth. The deeper the group travels, the more treacherous the landscape becomes, littered with the bones of ancient animals and besieged by electrical storms hurling fireballs from above. But the biggest surprise of all may be waiting for them when they finally emerge…
Published in 1864, Journey to the Center of the Earth is riddled with scientific inaccuracies, all of which were based on the accepted theories of Verne’s day. That context only adds to the enjoyment of the story—and doesn’t detract from the amazing fact that Verne accurately predicted a staggering number of future inventions.

5By Limits Don't ExistI read this book to my wife and 5 month old baby girl. We enjoyed every bit of it, and felt we learned so much throughout the journey. Jules Verne did an excellent job teaching us so much about science while entertaining us with the journey that the Professor, Axel, and Hans were on throughout the book. I feel we have made great leaps in sharing this classic with our daughter and will continue to explore many other classics to give and receive amazing insight and knowledge from these great writers.Love science fiction and Jules Verne
5By Bee geeeI really enjoy the works of Jules Verne. The richness of the language and he expands on what is possible. Is the center of the earth unreachable. He imagined going to the moon long before it was possible. What I genius.Pioneering Sci-Fi Adventure
5By iDittoheadJules Verne was a science fiction visionary and this book is a literature classic.A Baffling Book
3By jesterjaceMany of these Victorian classics have long poetic passages that grasp at scientific thoughts of their age and this one is no different. Axel’s narration of their journey is laced with all kinds of geological, biological, zoological, and anthropological terms and then…just when you think he might have a grasp of things, he says or thinks something utterly idiotic and it leaves you scratching your head. I had a hard time with this book. The classics are fun if you aren’t educated in sciences and can just go with the story. But this one had some parts that I had to read out loud to my partner who commented on how learned men of the era got a pass. So, I leave this book’s review with a Gentleman’s C for trying at least.Long story
3By Goodman+I did not expect this work of fiction to be so filled with the scientific arguments of its time. The characters are not believable, so it was a struggle to finish this book. The book has been used and exploited by Hollywood to make movies that don’t follow the book’s story.Quite a Journey
5By CubanosoWhat a wonderful read! There is science, humor, tension, foreboding. Axel’s narration is a delightful balance between the exquisite and the banal. I’m encouraged to read more Verne.Journey to the end of the book that ended too soon.

4By RocketRacoon 07Rated 10+ for me. It was hard for me to understand some of the words in a text, but overall it’s a very interesting book with, scientific facts theories and characters that all stay in your heart forever. One of the best books for kids and all ages
5By NauttillusThis is probably one of the best books to read as a kid but also in any age group. This book was a gift for me when I was like 8 years old and it totally just opened my mind to a whole new possibility, its good ficition like best for kids. Years latter I was to find out that in Global culture (around the world) there exists actual myths of places or things at the center of the Earth. Now having been a grown man this totally just opened my mind even further, its like when having the conversation of the Birds and the Bees with your parents, you know the sex talk, first its got to be eased into and then explained throughly. Thats basically how I see this book as the Birds and the Bees if you compare it to the real Myths of places inside the Earth. Even so this book as a fictional tale and by itself is a just great, a total work of art because it only helps to imagine what could be or could have been something that is rooted in our mythology, even if none ever reads "ancient lost city stuff” they will still find this book unique and just wonderfull. By itself this book is classic.Best book
