“Fresh and exhilarating. . . Cosby keeps his eye on the story and the pedal to the metal.” —Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review
A Black sheriff. A serial killer. A small town ready to combust.
The new novel from New York Times bestselling and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author S. A. Cosby, "one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction.” —Washington Post.
“An atmospheric pressure cooker.” —People
Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface.
Then a year to the day after Titus’s election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus’s deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes and a serial killer who has been hiding in plain sight, haunting the dirt lanes and woodland clearings of Charon.
With the killer’s possible connections to a local church and the town’s harrowing history weighing on him, Titus projects confidence about closing the case while concealing a painful secret from his own past. At the same time, he also has to contend with a far-right group that wants to hold a parade in celebration of the town’s Confederate history.
Charon is Titus’s home and his heart. But where faith and violence meet, there will be a reckoning.
Powerful and unforgettable, All the Sinners Bleed confirms S. A. Cosby as “one of the most muscular, distinctive, grab-you-by-both-ears voices in American crime fiction” (The Washington Post).
Reviews
He doesn’t miss!
5By cocky GCosby just doesn’t miss. This book can be very dark, gory, and graphic at times. All of these elements makes this novel a great read. Job well done.A quick, engaging thriller that lacks some subtlety
3By Mike EzepchickI didn’t necessarily love the writing in this, but I did find this to be a quick, easy read with a pretty engaging story - so I definitely liked it overall, I just didn’t love it. There were times where it felt like S.A. Crosby’s writing/prose felt just a little too stiff. I like the ideas he explored but his style was a little too direct and on-the-nose at times - especially the dialogue. He also seemed to bring in a bunch of different character/plot-driven tropes throughout the story too. There were times where it felt like he was doing too much. But, I did love the atmosphere and the main character. Titus was a black sheriff that came back to his small, southern hometown that’s clearly still divided with racial and political tensions and had to solve a string of gruesome murders. It made for a real quick read (a good thing) and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a darker, atmospheric thriller.Incredible.

5By ekow a-mSuperb writing. This book will be on movie screens soon. The description of the South to an outsider was mesmerizing.Great book
5By brock_zahlerThis book was fantastic! I think it’s one of the only books I’ve read this year that I’ve given 5 stars to. I didn’t know what to expect going in, but the way the author mixes race and politics with a story about a serial killer in a small town is something I haven’t seen done so well before. I was really interested in both the story and the characters, and I was always excited to pick it up. That’s a good sign I think. Would definitely recommend to anyone into true crime or thrillers and I will be on the hunt for more from S.A. Cosby! All The Sinners Bleed
3By Adelaide4444I am giving this book a 3/5 because of the way I think I like my thrillers to be written. I’m wondering if I would have had a different rating for this book had I listened to the audio version. I like my thrillers to be filled with lots of twists, turns, and suspense. I like to feel like I am always on the edge of my seat but I didn’t really get that with this book. Don’t me wrong, I think that the book was well written and I think that the he brings up plenty of topics worth discussing- The South, racism, self-hate, being Black in law enforcement, Christianity, etc. I actually enjoyed thinking about those concepts more than trying to figure out who the serial killer was. Another part of me feels like I was a little underwhelmed because this is everyday life for Black people in America. I did like Titus’ storyline and how he eventually works through his personal conflicts. I also loved his use of imagery. This is a book that I would be willing to revisit another time. I would be open to reading another novel by this author to see if a different book grabs my attention differently.Thoughts
