Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author S. A. Cosby returns with King of Ashes, a Godfather-inspired Southern crime epic and dazzling family drama.
When eldest son Roman Carruthers is summoned home after his father’s car accident, he finds his younger brother, Dante, in debt to dangerous criminals and his sister, Neveah, exhausted from holding the family—and the family business—together. Neveah and their father, who run the Carruthers Crematorium in the run-down central Virginia town of Jefferson Run, see death up close every day. But mortality draws even closer when it becomes clear that the crash that landed their father in a coma was no accident and Dante’s recklessness has placed them all in real danger.
Roman, a financial whiz with a head for numbers and a talent for making his clients rich, has some money to help buy his brother out of trouble. But in his work with wannabe tough guys, he’s forgotten that there are real gangsters out there. As his bargaining chips go up in smoke, Roman realizes that he has only one thing left to offer to save his brother: himself, and his own particular set of skills.
Roman begins his work for the criminals while Neveah tries to uncover the long-ago mystery of what happened to their mother, who disappeared when they were teenagers. But Roman is far less of a pushover than the gangsters realize. He is willing to do anything to save his family. Anything.
Because everything burns.
"[A] sizzling summer read that concludes with a few unexpected twists.”
—Atlanta Journal Constitution

Couldn’t put it down
5By Emi+nemWow. Just wow. I recommend listening to this book at the same time what an experience!Everything burns!
5By cocky GEdge of your seat gripping and pearl clutching! Cosby does it again!Nowhere near the quality of his other books
3By dominolouisI have read them all and this is by far the weakest. He did it again
5By kellysleeplessCosby continues to blow me away. I was able to meet him at an author event for the release of this book (time got away from me so I didn’t pick it up til a few days ago) and he was awesome. Extremely down to earth and I’m mad at myself that I didn’t get a photo with him. I will say this book didn’t grab my attention right away like his previous books, but once I got to the halfway point it finally pulled me in. He always manages to write the south in a way that makes it feel like a real place with grit, and not big city-country music-glamour. These are people who may be seen as struggling, but they make do with the family they have. They have history. I kinda guessed the climax, but I was shocked at the whodunit reveal. Looking back, Cosby left little tidbits that hinted at the character’s reason for their behavior. Excited for the next one.Everything SA Cosby writes get better and better and better…
5By Matt742Could this top all of his previous work? Could he keep this heater going? Well, yes…absolutely! This book is arguably his best yet. It leaps off the page with such a sense of place. Absolutely fantastic. I can’t wait for the next one!Awful
1By WGCJrUnsatisfying right up to the last word.A bit gruesome for my taste
2By Pam355Liked the general storyline, and was looking forward to seeing how Roman escapes the mess his brother made. But after about the 3rd fairly graphic death/torture/punishment scene, I stopped reading about halfway through.SA Crosby’s best so far
5By 3MbysdadI could not put this book down. I think it is his best so far. Completely engrossing. What a book!King of ashes
