Reviews
Overly Detailed, Repetitious & Emotionless
3By Ems ALiked the premise, with Scarpetta thrust into super high tech, the Russians and the wacky amoral couple at the center. But the tech and the travel were overly detailed and eventually became very boring. Cornwall was so repetitive with her entire plot and descriptions that I eventually skipped chunks of later chapters and still kept up with the storyline — because it was detailed for me again and again. Very disappointed at a book that should have been more exciting. Perhaps Scarpetta was too worn out by the Russians to deliver.A good story
3By SetItFree68The story moves along with a few twists but I am tired of Carrie. She has to goGreat read
5By irishtimes 1970Great read loved the story lineWell worth the read!
5By Lala KarlaReally goodToo much detail
3By Grambo5Book was overly long due to the inclusion of every day life minutiaeBoring
1By TLRaabOnly reason I kept going is it helped me fall asleep at night!Thoughts
3By qmwntI haven’t read one of the series in years and now I remember why. Her stories and themes have become routine. Scarpitta’s fears to consistent with no growth. And the technologies she has faced in this one are too unbelievable at present, possible but not probable.Another Thriller from Cornwall
4By cecielphWell paced and easy to read, but hard to put down. Another Cornwall thriller perhaps without as many of the suspense surprises we’ve become accustomed from her. Highly enjoyable. Well worth your time.Absurd
1By Dgb65Loony plot and endless soap opera dialogue.Great read
5By DONNALOUISEBRADFORDOne of her best. I couldn’t put it downGreat until the end
3By M&AI was completely hooked until the abrupt end. It felt rushed and incomplete to me.Unnatural Death
4By nannieboI just like many of the former works better that had more intricate details and more thrills. The ending seemed hurried and I always want a Scarlett’s novel to last longer. Not one of her best books. Very disjointed.
2By Ollie BabaBig Foot storyline a bit ridiculous.Unnatural death
1By terrible paperWay too wordySo slow and over the top in fluff
1By FlozzleI had to stop reading this book. Twenty pages to describe a helicopter flight to a crime scene and another for the flight back. I feel like 75% of the words could be cut and you’d have a much better book.Someone rises from the dead
5By jannieliveSpoiler alert: I wondered if we were ever free of this wretched Carrie person a few books ago. Loved the interjection of BigFoot as well as Mariano’s part in it.Whining on every page
2By CentralCALadyI have been avoiding these Scarpetta books for a while and got this out of desperation when nothing else appealed. Now I know why I so dislike them. The constant self-pity of the main character combined with the forced replay of earlier booms makes these a tedious read. Don’t waste your money.Adrenaline pumping
5By J TrowbridgeAs always, a great read!!Slightly better than the last one…
1By ArlizabethBut not by a lot. Not much happens except for the author trying to convince us, once again, that the only thing saving the Earth (or at least, the US) from evil is Kay Scarpetta and her band of oddball geniuses. Evidently highly valued by the Federal government, they face petty jealousy from the mere mortals with whom they are forced to work as well as just garden variety incompetence. Sigh. It’s tough to be Scarpetta. For the second book in a row, she doesn’t even cook; she even resorts to fast food for one meal! There is little sleuthing, relying on a recycled villain and conveniently revealed information from national intelligence sources plus a well-timed rescue of our erstwhile hero to serve as “plot.” The excessive product placement that riddled earlier books in the series seems to have stopped; Cornwall doesn’t mention Apple or Breitling and Subaru appears to have replaced Mercedes. All the dogs that were front and center in prior books have disappeared without explanation, leaving just a moody cat and oddly, an insect. Basically, just another tired entry in a tired series. You’re better off re-reading the early ones.
