ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR—
Entertainment Weekly, BuzzFeed, Shelf Awareness

“I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”
“I live for you,” I say sadly.
Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.”

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power.  He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

I hope you're ready for an emotional roller coaster because this is a good one. I loved every minute of these book. It's almost like I wish I could reread it for the first time just because I know I'll never experience it the same way again. The plot and character work holds the real juice of everything going on here, and Pierce Brown executed both masterfully; making sure to leave enough depth and detail to every character to make them 3D and interesting, while also not going too much into detail that we start to get bored. It's filled with powerful characters, inspiring messages, and some of the best descriptive language l've ever heard. Truly, this an amazingly well written book full of twists and emotional upsets that will have you craving to know what happens next, and it will take all of your willpower to not look up any spoilers as you go. I can't wait to explore more of Pierce Browns work.

This series just took the top place on my list of all time favorite books. The series I used to have in the number one spot was there for years and years and you would never have been able to convince me that one day I’d find something to take its place. I’ve read all 6 books in the Red Rising series 3 times now and I only just discovered them a few months ago. I love this Author and I love this series!

The most engaging book I have read in a long time. So well put together, so well executed. To compare it to the hunger games is to do it a disservice. I highly recommend this book.

Very well written and complex. Love how the plot feels like an elevated and enhanced dystopian YA novel but the writing style is anything but YA. Impossible to predict, thrilling, smart. Just what I was looking for.
